Six Month Old McDonald Burger As Good As New

Apparently McDonalds food will last forever.

BEIJING, Oct. 17 (Xinhuanet) -- A New York woman who fetched a McDonalds Happy Meal six months ago found the uneaten food were still as fresh as the first sight, according to AFP news Thursday.

The artist-photographer Sally Davies claimed that her primary aim was to capture the forms of a hamburger in the intervals of changing from fresh to corruption.

Six months after  taking photos from the day she purchased the McDonald's hamburger,  she showed the photos that nothing big has changed.

The McDonald's said that "bacteria and mold only grow under certain conditions.... If food is/or becomes dry enough, it won't grow mold or bacteria".

Being questioned about the proof of her experiment, Davies suggests people to do the same.

Shouldn't be surprising. Almost all commercial bread products will desiccate long before growing mold if left out in the open. Their fries are very unlikely to grow mold given their low moisture content in a cooked state. The beef patty is the only item that might have a chance at growing mold, but knowing McDonald's, it's dry, salty, and fatty enough to resist mold until the point where it completely dries out (which it does quickly due to patty thinness) and can't grow mold.

Here's a twelve years old burger -> http://bestofmotherearth.com/2008/09/24/1996-mcdonalds-hamburger.html if true then there's a whole lot of preservatives.

Pointless, as far as that 'experiment' goes. For any experiment to be valid, you need at least a control sample, i.e. home made fries and burger similar to those from McD. Mythbusters could have do a better job.

I'll give $10 to anyone willing to eat it.

By the way, have any of you seen the Stinkymeat Project?

See, even bacteria and mold will not go near McDonalds, so neither should people!

Actually kangaroo is pretty tasty.

I generally pass on McDonalds though even if it means missing a meal.

Well said - low moisture plus high sodium, that's all. It is not because it's "synthetic,""undigestable" or anything else. Put that same meal in a ziploc and watch it decompose just fine.

salt is a preservative

So I guess McDonalds turns into Beef Jerky naturally ....

All thin and salted pieces meat turn into jerky naturally when placed in a reasonably clean and dry environment. Not that the McDonald's burger would be edible at that point, the fat in the burger will likely go rancid fairly quickly.

What happens if you eat at McDonald's while trying to listen to your portable?  Dangerous...

I wouldn't take your ten dollars even if it was a fresh McDonald's hamburger!
