Hi I'm stuck in which to buy between these 3 headphones.  I already read many comparison threads but still can't find a solid base on which one to buy.  Any suggestions/help please?

I mainly listen to pop, hip-hop/rap, and techno.  My sources will be my iTouch and laptop, so no amp.

never heard Q40, but between M50 and 840, for Hiphop M50 will offering more fun sounding. Other option, SRH750DJ is great, I like them better than M50, but comfort wise, M50 is better for sure.

For your genres of music I would say it comes down to the Q40 or M50. If you have a portable amp, definitely the Q40. If you need isolation, the M50 is better.

M50...

I had the SRH840 and between the two, I much preferred the M50. Great value, and for your purposes... should be perfect. Have not heard the Q40.

Good luck.

I still say the Q40, because it benefits more from an amp and doesn't get enough love on these forums, and because the M50s are overrated here (not saying they're bad). I have also never had a problem with my Q40. As I mentioned earlier, also consider whether you need isolation or not. The cord might also be a concern; if you're going for portable use, the M50 has a coiled version which is much better than a 10' cable.

Thanks for the input guys! I went ahead and decided to go with the M50's because I don't have a portable amp.  I ordered a few days ago and will post up my initial impressions of it without an amp.
