My friends keep wasting their money on Bose sound systems!

Is there like a technical article that I could have them read, something so technical they won't even understand, to try and make them understand how much money they are wasting? They all thing "Bose is the best" and honestly I really never cared if they were ignorant to audio quality, but now it's them just wasting too much money, and I actually feel bad. Of course they don't believe me, so I need some credible source of info to try and convince them. They still have time to return this crap!

Honestly, I wouldn't bother.

Most people who buy Bose Acoustimass style systems do so out of a sort of (twisted) rational ignorance. Their ears can't tell the difference, the WAF factor is high, and it's a socially acceptable thing to do. Not everyone is a single guy who can (or would want to) drop half a dozen floor standers in his living room.

You may be able to get them to move to something like an Orb Audio system by emphasizing the trendy looks and good head to head reviews. Not really much of an improvement in wallet or SQ in absolute terms, but still a decent step up on both fronts.

Sell them on the idea of a Sansa clip and KSC75s sounding even better at a fraction of the price.

While I hate all things Bose, not just dislike, but HATE, I feel no need to save anyone from them.  I have a friend I highly respect, (an amazing musical ear)  who has listened to my rigs on many occasions, but he still likes his Bose very much.  Thats simply his personal preference.  I do feel sad for the music lovers who have never heard anything other than Bose, but if they have heard other options and still prefer Bose, more power to 'em!

Although I realize that it's an old cliche around here to be hating on Bose, for casual listening their equipment works just fine, as long as money is no object. I've enjoyed listening to music generated by a Bose system from time to time and not felt dirty because of it.

If you want to convince them that Bose isn't as good as its cost would indicate, I would suggest arranging for them to hear music from what you consider to be a superior system. If they seem to think that it's better than their Bose equipment, you can inform them of what it is, and that it is actually cheaper than their equipment. If they still like their Bose equipment better, then you'd really be doing a disservice to them by trying to force them to get something they like less. It doesn't matter what you like best, it matters what they like best.

Amen!  Its all about the individual ear, never about the collective golden ear.

I don't have a problem with people liking Bose either. It doesn't affect me at all. But the Bose factor usually revolves around people knocking other people's speakers because they're not Bose, which is the best there is!

It gets old. Honestly, I blame Paul Harvey.
