HAHA!!

Join the club, I get good deals on stuff, and have to wait forever

Like...I might get a MZ-E707 or MD-DS30/70 from audiocubes, but I'd have it, but wouldn't...it sucks.

That's a long wait....I don't think I can wait that long. At least I got my own gift for this year....Rio Karma and DVD-R recorder for my computer. I didn't have to wait that long. Don't worry Zen Xtra is worth waiting for, just hang on in there and don't loose sleep over it.

I can't complain too much, I'm getting the Xtra, ety 4Ps, and a headphone amp.

Well good, if you can wait...that is fine. I had a 30gig Zen Xtra once, but I had to exchanged for the Karma. Because I like the size and feature on it more. But what I missed the most from the Zen Xtra was the SVM (Smart Volume Management).

I'll enjoy it all the more for waiting (if I say it enough, it'll be true!).

I saw that on the box, what exactly is that? Kinda like replay gain?

I choose the Xtra for it's price (30 gig for the price of a 10gb ipod), and the easy to replace battery. How was the battery life like on the Xtra?

***Similar to it. But there is no extra process. All you have to do is turn this on and play your song and your sounds will be auto level. The only downside of this is you can't use it with eq. EAX can only use one feature at a time. So it's either using this or you don't. But personally, I didn't have to use eq, since I had a good headphone. I used Koss KSC 55.

**** As far as the battery goes, the EAX feature tend to drain the battery a bit. Like maybe you can get around 8 hours instead of 15 but I didn't mind it. But if you don't want to use EAX feature, it should at least last around 12 to 15 hours. I never tried it though.

I may tinker with EQ a bit, I plan on using ety 4Ps with mine, but autoleveling of voulme sounds like a handy feature.

Either one should work fine for me, I plan to mostly use mine in my car and at my desk at work.

What features did the Karma have that you wanted over the Xtra?

Also I'm getting a headphone amp (Probably a portable by JMT) to with it.

[What features did the Karma have that you wanted over the Xtra?

First of all the, the size. I workout a regularly and I wanted something small enough that I can put it on my armstrap while working out. I have a portable minidisc as well. But I don't like taking many disc with me. And besides, I like the random or shuffling my playlist a lot so this gives me a chance to listen to various type of music for hours. The crossfade feature is great. Love it, love it, love it.
There is no other mp3 player in the market yet that has this feature. I love this particularly when I'm working out. My tune is un-interrupted. The battery life is longer since no eq is required b'cos the sound is good enough. But there are more eq setting if I need to adjust it. I get about at least around 12 or more hours from it. Rio DJ is also awesome feature. You may select and play songs from 3 weeks ago, 2 months ago and best yet, top ten and the player will pick it for you.
There are tons of features that it was worth compromising the replacement battery and EAX feature on the Zen XTRA. I like the Rio Karma's sound better too with or without eq.

I think I would have considered the Karma if they had been able to get the 40gb model out, but from what I hear they had supply problems.

Well 40gb, I think is too much to put all in one unit. What if the HD crashed? Then all your music is gone. Like the old saying, don't put all your eggs in one basket type thing, that's just my own opinion. And as far as the problem goes, the tech and engineering are behind their products at Rio. And the new firmware has been added to their website and most issues has been resolved by this firmware. I was once reluctant to get into karma myself. But the features is what really made my mind on going with the Karma.

20 or 40, I wouldn't use it as my only storage, I have a lot of mine burned onto CDs as well.
