yes, older ones generally are regarded as better sounding, especially some of the earliest released ones. i have reason to suspect that some of this is the aging of the wood itself. that said grados often seem to have a fair amount of unit to unit variability.

I see....by chance what year would make them vintage?

Or you could use the same money they change for recabling to buy another pair of RS1i.

I have more than 13 actually- just feel ashamed about listing something like SR40 there.

Back on topic- Apparently re-cabling Grado woodies can indeed be a bit trickly. That's why Moon Audio send the jobs back to Grado. If you pay them to re cable your RS1 or GS1000, Drew would send your phones and his cable to Grado lab, you will receive them from Grado when it's done.

Finally got my RS1 back from APS with the v3 cable installed today, it certainly doesn't sound worse though I'm going to keep listening

I'd also like to note that people have stated that the cable sounds bright initially. I do not notice any increased brightness whatsoever. Is it because people believe that silver makes the sound brighter therefore their mindset is already made to think that it sounds bright since the APS cable is a combination of copper and silver?

Silver down plays the lows and give the highs a little sparkle, thus the bright reputation.  Not all silver cables sound the same though.  The higher purity silver suffers less from these preconditions and becomes just as warm as copper, but without the mellow factor copper sometimes brings.
