I've been doing a lot of searching in the archives, without getting a 100% fixed answer. For the last 2 months, I've been searching for an amp that does an equally good job of driving both Grados and D7000. There's no fixed answer. People say tubes are better for Grados, while some say SS is the way to go for the D7000.
What if a someone has both, but can only afford a single amp? And that too, not a very costly one! I'm from India, and I cannot audition any gear before buying it, and this is a major pain. Are there any others like me, from places outside of Europe or the US? Despite this, I love this hobby, and I think I will continue to love headphones all my life.
I don't think this has been done on head-fi, but I'm hoping the senior members who know more and have used more hi-fi gear will help by posting here a few amps that do have terrific synergy with both headphones. To make it more meaningful I've added budgets to the mix. I've added a few amps that I've read up on, and sufficient opinions to the affirmative lead me to conclude they have good synergy with both Grados and Denons. To make this more useful to anyone starting off, I've also embedded links to the manufacturers websites. If mods have a problem, I'll remove them.
1) Up to 300$ - NA
2) 300 - 600$ -
3) 600 - 850$ - WA6, MAD Ear+ HD
4) 850 - 1000$ - Headamp GS-1
5) 1000 - 1500$ - WA6SE, RSA Raptor,
6) above 1500$ - Zana Deux
Please suggest options and I'll keep editing and adding them to the price points. Hopefully, this list will grow to the point of becoming useful to newbies and upgraders alike.
