Just curious what people are doing to their SM3s - me, I'm perfectly happy with their sound (and Alpine double flange tips).

Deadhead12, a blast from the past... can't even remember my SE530 review. wink.gif

As Photo1986 (the original modder) has stated, this mod is fully reversible. Though a screwdriver is great, you can use something as simple as a mechanical pencil. You can just pop the filters back in place if you don't like the change. I don't know about other people, but I think this mod is a kind of reversible version of the Kramer's Mod (with different SQ changes).

Still, don't forget to put some low density foam in the nozzle, and try to find the best amount of it, otherwise, you'll find the sound too harsh.

Here is how I did it.  I used a paper clip and bend it to extract the filter.  I don't like the mod as the high frequencies sound kind of harsh.  Very reversible mod.  Be careful not to loose it as it will jump when it comes out.

It's a bummer the stem on that earphone is cracked. How did that happen?

I've indicated my interest and paid a deposit for a group buy organised locally but nothing's firm until mid November when they gauge the overall interest. Can't wait till I have these in my ears biggrin.gif and then I'll finally decide which to keep - the UM3X or the SM3

Wow, Benny! That's an excellent price! If I already did not have them, I would certainly take them from you tongue.gif

No, he's not. At some point someone has got to start a "Bennyboy71 Appreciation Thread". Really.

How are you Ben? We don't seem to be running in the same circles nowadays. Still groovin' on your Etys?

Cheers

I have a quick question.  What is a good earphone tip/sleeve, preferably silicon, that I can buy in the US that will work with the SM3 without any mod or spacers?  Thanks!

Why don't you buy the Sensorcom tips from UK? The pack I ordered was delivered to me in about a week.

Shipping is like 20 dollars USD while the tips are ~7usd per pack.  I don't like to buy things that cost more to ship than the item itself.  Of course I can buy more than 1, but I don't know how good of a fit they would be for me.  If push comes to shove, I'll probably buy those, but I just want to see if there are any alternatives out there.

Is there any difference between Sensorcom or Westone/Ety tri-flanges? Does Sensorcom have a larger opening?
