Yeah, reflectors are usually used in outdoor photography to even out the lighting. Plus, even in a candid situation, light can reflect off of other objects (mirrors, windows, buildings) to create weird shadows.

 

And a picture I took with a double light source to provide an example. I used a flash to highlight the glitters, and a fill/backlight to, well, fill. 

 

Or, you know, I photoshopped the cIEM into this image because you cannot have different lightsources that create multiple shadows in a picture.

This whole discussion reminds of the 'faked moonlanding' arguments.
