I've a Creek CAS4040 amp from the 80s, a turntable from the 80s and a bunch of records & a Denon CD player also from the 80s. I paid about $30 to have the amp repaired recently. This was Creek Audio System's first amp and I've heard some decent things about it so I figured it was worth it having it resurrected.
I'm looking to make my first purchase of speakers to pair with my amp and since I know next to nothing about speakers I'm wondering if I should get active or passive speakers? Recommendations would help. (Would a pair of modern active speakers sound better than the CAS4040?)
Any guidance / suggestions welcome as I don't wanna go out and buy the Dr.Dre Beats of the speaker world. I need to get schooled on speakers so if you have some pent up rant on speakers you've been restraining, let it all out.
I'd consider used gear too as long as it's all at about the $150-300 range, budget's flexible though.
Edit: not sure what the CAS4040 is capable of driving but here are some specs: 30 watts with 8 ohm load,
