First time "hi-fi" speaker setup.

I plan on buying from Audiogon used.
Let's assume I'm starting from scratch. I am interested in the Meier Audio Concert/StageDAC combo and if this would work well in this application then I'd probably get that.
I'd like a DAC and headphone amp that will work as a preamp.
I will primarily be playing music from my computer out of the speakers (that is where all of my music is). I will also use the speakers for watching movies.
The room size is approx 20x15 and its an apartment so I won't be having the volume up extremely loud. However, I'd still like a setup that sounds "big" rather than isolated and sounding like its coming from one point. (I want it to surround me as much as possible without having an actual surround system).
So I think it'd go computer -> DAC -> Preamp/headphone amp -> amp -> speakers. Is this correct?
