Headphones for office environment

I am looking for headphones for use in an office environment.  I have never owned a decent pair, so have no brand loyalty.  My main concerns are comfort for extended wear (4+ hrs/day).  Varying musical taste from heavy metal, house, to hip hop.

Also, I need something that is not going to produce an audible sound to surrounding people (not sure what the term for this is).  Ive read many recommendations, but havent really seen much on this particular concern.  Budget of $250-ish.

Any suggestions?

Welcome to Head-Fi.

FWIR, I suggest considering the Denon D1001.

The D1001 is a good choice for a low budget. Definitely very comfortable and not too tight. They're good in their price range (get the Creative Aurvana Live - same headphones, just rebranded - for $70). You should also be able to hear when your boss is calling your name =)

The Beyer DT770 Pro might be a good choice as well. Very comfy, won't leak, and has a lot of bass (for your needs). These isolate more than the D1001.

Thanks guys.

Blackzarg- would you go with the DT770 PRO over the M?  I'm worried with the PRO being semi-open that it would possibly leak more.

The DT770 Pro, in my opinion, are closed headphones...the DT880s are the semi-open headphones...be warned though that they do isolate pretty pretty well so sometimes it is hard to hear other people haha. They are no doubt nice headphones though [as i own a pair myself hehe] also are you gonna buy an amp? what is your source gonna be? If you are gonna run it straight out form a computer or mp3 player..i suggest the 32Ohms version as it is easier to run [if i'm not wrong]. Oh and they are really comfortable too (: .

Thanks Mattering..  I want something that isolates well.  My main concern is sound leak.  I dont want people around me to be able to hear it (theres nothing more annoying than someone sitting next to you and you can hear their headphones)..

I had not planned on buying an amp.  My source would primarily be PC sound card.  This is a factory card, however, so no amplification.

The Pro is a closed headphone, and actually isolates more than the Premium model (the difference between the two are the better ruggedness of the Pro, and the tighter fit of the Pro for isolation).

There's actually a good deal on the 770PRO right now in the classified section....someone is selling it for $100 shipped - I've had my eyes on it for a long time, but can't justify more headphone purchases! If you do end up getting those used for $100, that would leave room in your budget for a small DAC/AMP, such as a Nuforce uDAC ($75 refurbed or $130 for uDAC-2), if you wanted.

The 770s isolate very well.  You have to really crank them before anything will leak.

You can also improve the isolation if you buy the Beyer gel pads.

Alright, I've decided on the Beyerdynamic DT770 PRO 250Ohm.   For an amp, I am taking the above suggestion (and great reviews everywhere) of the NuForce uDAC-2.   Does anyone see any issues with this combination?  is the nuforce enough amp for those headphones?  any better suggestions?

OP, be sure to check out the Shure SRH840 also. Great headphones, no leak at all, and only around $150. I use these at work on my laptop everyday.

I think that there wouldn't be any problem with that combo biggrin.gif
