Audio-GD NFB-11 - Page 36

Wow. . this is surprising that they're discontinuing the product so quickly.  I just managed to get my order in so hopefully it will show up in January some time.

The NFB-11 has landed in SoCal. It's very cute. Burning in now.....will post some impressions next week. Not that it matters so much, I guess.

How long did it take from shipping notice to your front door? Thanks

i guess nfb-12 here i come.. ?

That is correct. They are still using 1704

In the forum, Kingwa state that the 1704 production has not completely stop... but they are only manufactured when there is an order.  The price for it has also gone up because according to manufacture/his source? It has no competition so they are sticking to their price.

Audio-GD plan to order 12,000 1704 in 2011 in 3 batches of 4k. Not sure if this figure includes the 4k order they placed in October.

Is that correct?

Dear Kingwa,

It seems you and Edwin can't send E-mail out also, Edwin said he would get back to me with a new shipping number for my new DAC-19DSO1v5 that he said he sent to me via DHL on 12/18/10.

btw i did send a reminder about 12:00 pm your time to both you and Edwin.

Do you know this company, they are in Hong Kong. Anyway just so you don't think you are the only one having problems, here is a link to the out come of that problem that this Head-Fi member was having for the past two weeks. wink_face.gif

A few days ago I changed my (pre-) order from an NFB-11 to a NFB-10ES -without USB so as to avoid the USB rework delays, and because I decided to take the plunge into balanced sources and amps. Edwin said it would ship Jan 7th.

And now they stopped production of anything with the ESS chip in it. The Sabre equipped Audio-Gd's will be super rare.   Unobtainium.

ESS Sabre vs Wolfson

Currawong said the Wolfson 8741 is used in a lot of high-end DACs. I note that it is also used in the "A" version of the Audio-Gd  FUN, which I have.  Sounds like there might be one of my A/B comparisons in the offing- FUN DAC (Wolfson 8741)  vs.  NFB-10ES DAC (ESS ES9018) -  DAC outputs matched for level via pots and going to a Beta 22 for an A/B comparison of the sound.

Audio-gd FUN used to have the Wolfson 8740, but this summer it was upgraded to 8741 (there is a large difference between the two chips). Depends when you got your FUN. The FUN only runs one chip though, the new NFB ones run dual chips in mono configuration (much higher specs). The Wolfson 8741 is among other DACs used in Meier Audio StageDAC and PS Audio PerfectWave.

Oh and for those who are getting a Sabre DAC, I wouldn´t be worried about the warranty. I´m pretty sure he has kept some chips for warranty purposes.

for the record, i just had an email exchange with Edwin yesterday and there were no delays (on the main email, not kingwa's hotmail). i guess it depends on where the incoming email is from as to whether there are any issues.

Two weeks.

This is odd- The FUN I bought is supposed to be Version "A"  - but it has the  DA1852 module in it, not the  DA8741.  This doesn't seem right.  I will send Audio-Gd an email to see why my "A" version FUN has the Analog Devices 1852 in it.

Did you check the pictures for the A and B modules to see if you in fact got the B version instead of what you ordered the A.version.

That is a real bummer, please let us know the out come.

This is a perfect example of how a company that makes good products can loose public favor and subsequently sales.  Once a negative sentiment has been established its extremely hard to get rid of it.  AGD really needs some professional help with regards to customer service.  Sending Edwin to get his MBA may be too little, too slow, too late....also on-the-job training may not be appropriate at this point in time.

Good thing is, people realize that AGD is going through growing pains and the build as well as sonic quality of the products are good, also they are a good value.

Don't get to worried yet, but It might be a good idea to keep checking any and all of the Audio-GD boards here on Head-Fi for the next week or two. Anyway there are a lot of very nice people here at Head-Fi and you may get some ideas on something that may interests you.
