I hate Etta James...

because she made me cry.

I'm sitting here remastering "At Last" for a friend. I just finished it and decided to play it full blast on my main rig. What a song! I couldn't help but smile and cry. Gave me goosebumps. Makes me feel like a wuss but damn, it's such an amazing song.

Just thought I would share.

Any other songs do that for you? Please share

I saw the title of this thread prepared to bash whoever hated etta james.  But you like her, that's cool.  Her Rocks the House album gets a lot of play from me.  My family doesn't like me and my brothers trying to sing her because it damages the vocal chords, which isn't good for the voice.  But when you hear her, you just want to tear down the house with her.

Same as Radio_head, thought the thread was about Etta James bashing and came in to say some good things about her. Glad it turns out to be a pro-Etta James thread!

The first Etta tune I heard was I'd Rather Go Blind, but my favorites are Almost Persuaded and Only Time Will Tell.

Great great tunes!

I was a teenager working in a record shop in 1961 when the LP "At Last" was released on the Argo label, it was a huge seller. I liked the title song then and I like it now.

Etta James was and is an amazing singer. She is one of the best female blues singers ever.

I'm always impressed by "Esther Phillips - And I Love Him" and "Dusty Springfield - Spooky"...2 fantastic songs smily_headphones1.gif

From that same album, "Anything To Say You're Mine" does the same thing to me.  Devastating.  You can hear the pain in her voice.

Completely agree.

Awsome song ("At Last").  Saw the movie "Cadillac Man" awhile back and loved it.  It was about the founding of Chess Records.

"Dinah Washington - Unforgettable" works too.

Just played my remaster again tonight and man...same effect.

It is such an emotional powerhouse! Not only that but the quality of the vocals and musicians is fantastic as well. I wish you guys could be here to share in the experience.

I also love Dinah Washington - especially "What a difference a day makes". Fantastic album.
