My old roomates used to have something like this, and currently I find myself needing it.I went to best buy, but he said you would have to go to a special audio store. Does anyone know where I could get something like this online? (maybe dealxtreme)

so long as the speaker wire gauge is low enough, you could solder one yourself quite easily.

as an aside question, when would you ever need such a wire?

I don't own a soldering iron.

I was going to see if I could connect some bookshelf speakers that were left in my house to my logitech powered sub.

you can always buy some RCA cables at www.monoprice.com and cut the plugs off one end and splice them to the speakers..

Are you trying to run the bookshelf speakers from the RCA outs of the sub amp?

Is the logitech sub a standalone sub, or one of those 2.1 computer audio systems with two stereo speaker outputs for the little satellite speakers?  The former will not work with this idea, the latter most likely will work fine.  You just need to get some RCA connectors, any kind of speaker wire, and connect it up.  If it sounds bad then you have +/- reversed.
