Official: New York Area Meet, Nov 20, White Plains, NY

Thread Starter

The next New York area Head-Fi meet will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, in White Plains, NY

What: Head-Fi Meet!

Where:

Crowne Plaza Hotel

66 Hale Ave

White Plains, NY 10610

914-682-0050

http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/cp/1/en/hotel/hpncp

Directions

When: Saturday, Novemer 20, 2010, 10 AM to 6 PM (doors open at 9:00 AM)

Why: Because!

Parking: There is a municipal lot across the street with rates varying based on the length of stay.  The maximimum amount is $8 until closing but is less if you stay a shorter time.  There is also a hotel self parking lot for $10 per day and valet parking at $10 for up to 6 hours and $14 for longer or overnight stays.

If you are coming by public transportation the hotel has a free shuttle bus on call from White Plains Metro North Station.

Ground rules:

Who can attend:

All Head-Fi members are welcome to attend.  Please post in this thread if you plan on attending and indicate if you plan to bring any guests.  The space is 1800 square feet so we should be able to accomodate all those that wish to attend

Cost:

The meet is free to attend but donations are encouraged and accepted to cover the cost of the room.

Not So Silent Auction:

We also hold an auction with items donated by the attendees which will also help pay for the venue.  If you have anything of any value you would like to donate, please bring it along.  This could be anything from a CD to extra cabling to a component or computer equipment you no longer use.  Vendors in attendance will also be bringing auction items.  Vinny from Red Wine Audio has already committed to offering an iMod as well as some other items.  You generally can get a really great deal so bring your mula and be ready to bid.

If you would like to donate an item, please post it here.

Gear:

Members are encouraged to bring their headphone gear to share with the attendees.  You can bring anything you want but keep the following in mind:

-People will be handling your stuff.  Head-Fiers are extremely respectful - bordering on reverent - when it comes to gear so your equipment will be in good hands.  But if you're not comfortable with people wearing your $1500 headphones, leave them at home.

-Likewise, if you are handling other people's gear treat it as if it were your own (or better).  Don't switch out gear or borrow a pair of headphones to try in another rig without getting permission first.

-Try to keep food and drink out of the meeting area to avoid accidents.

-Although this is a social gathering please keep conversation low and to a minimum if possible.  We may try to enforce a couple of "Zen Time" sessions where everyone is encourged not to talk for an hour or so.

-Personaly hygiene is important.  Not sure this needs to be said but we always do.  Avoid colognes or perfumes.

-Bring power strips and extension cords.  Sources also seem to be at a premium sometimes.

Full gear list, roll call and other info can be found here.

My flight's booked already so of course I'll be there. Do not know what, if any, gear I'll have, because there's a chance I won't bring anything. (But I'll try to.)

I'm seriously considering staying at a hotel in NYC this time (for no other reason than to go all-out because this will likely be the last time I go to NYC, CanJam '11 aside) and have a question for the NYC-ers: what are the advantages to staying in Chelsea, midtown, uptown (Harlem), or the upper east side? Any disadvantages to staying in one of those areas? Assume cost is no object. (But I do value personal safety, fast access to major tourist spots, convenient access to pizza & Greek, etc.)

Count me in as well.  I'll donate something for the auction, but have to decide what that will be.  I have some odd miscellaneous audio gear that might be fun for the auctionee's.

Looking forward to meeting some folks, puting faces to names/monikers.

Thanks for setting this up!

I'm in - I hope - and I'll bring anything interesting that I have around.

For Asr: welcome to my hood ... midtown is slick but touristy, uptown is too far away, upper east side is dull ... I'd try Chelsea or Gramercy - fun places, great food, good clubs, Gramercy has better subways to Grand Central, where the White Plains trains leave.  Or the West Village, ditto re food and clubs, plus shopping.  All of NYC is safe, and all of NYC is expensive.

The Immtbiker clan will most definitely be there.

I will be bringing my John Tucker Exemplar modded Oppo BDP-83 CDP (plays SACD/DVD-A/and Blue Ray), along with a Schitt Valhalla and a pair of the new production version of the HE-6's, which can be played through most headphone amps. I will bring my Dared 300B Quasi-Mono blocks to use the speaker taps to run the HE-6's and K1000's.

As usual, thanks for doing the fall meet Erik. There are so many new products this year, I have a feeling there will be more listening than talking...Nah, never gunna happen with this amicable group.
