I need something new for my headphones.  I am coming from Xonar Essence STX. 

 

I've got ATH-AD700, DT990, and D2000's.

 

I listen to aggressive upbeat music styles of all genres. 

 

I want more UMPH, feeling, and aliveness in my sound.  Help me choose please I will greatly appreciate.

I have always read that the AD-700's don't really need amping, and that anything from Beyerdynamic greatly benefits from a tube amp.  I haven't heard any amps listed but I just thought I would throw the little bits that I know out there.

I regret selling my Cute Beyond.  That's a fantastic little amp for the money.

I bought an Aune recently and am very happy with it.  I replaced the opamps with OPA2111KP in the DAC section (sounds clearer than the stock OPA2134 somehow, nice with electronic music especially) and two OPA277 in the headphone bit, but the opamps it ships with are quite balanced performers. I can understand why they use them, and i had these opamps spare from a project i'm working on, the stock OPA2604 in the headphone bit is quite 'bassy' smily_headphones1.gif

Not good comparisons here, some are DAC/AMP combe while some are just AMP.

You're comparing amp alone or with DAC?

What source?

 

Also, tube should not be put in the same place with SS amps since they are really very different things.
