is there a tube equivalent to the cmoy? - Page 2

The 6DJ8 amp not only has a plethora of inexpensive and readily-available tubes, but, if you use IRF510s for the output devices, *every* part needed (including the tubes, natch) is still in production, and pretty easily available, globally. IMO that should count for... something. smily_headphones1.gif

They run cooler than mosfets also. Don't really even need heatsinks on mine.

Yes, I like sound. On my is wery small heatsinks, slightly warm, probably can work without, I am not trying.

Do you built Super Simple or Aikido?

Next week ordered IRF510 must be here and I am going to build an other to compare.

Another good choice would be the Van Waarde, also at Headwize. It uses a lower high voltage supply (you can use cheap 120V-120V isolation transformer for it too).

Only suitable for high impedance headphones though.

IMHO better than  Van Waarde and Kurt Stain.

First tube amp I build, than trying many others, Morgan Jones still sound the best for me. And Aikido.

I've built both.  The super simple amp was on breadboard, maybe 2 years ago.

I only have the Aikido now. After trying the LM317 I now use DN2540 depletion mode mosfets on the Aikido(in both places)

Yes, the Aikido is special. No other amp sounds the same. Just one more tube per channel and the super simple could be an Aikido now.

This is a very simple tube amp I think it is about as easy as the CMOY

i think the tube equivalent to a cmoy would be the most complex tube headphone amp ever built smily_headphones1.gif

Do you mean discrete tube opamp?

Back in the early 1970's teledyne did a fully dc coupled opamp with 2 x dual triodes.

So it can be done.  Pretty sure it needed 4 power supply voltages.

Yep, tried one of those, sounds quite decent.

Nobody's recommended the YAHA?

I was going to make one of these P2P for kicks, but I have too much on my plate right now.

MEHA might be an idea too http://www.ecp.cc/meha.html
