In your audio system:

What percentage have you spent on:
 

  • Headphones / Speakers
  • Amplifiers
  • Sources
  • cables / tweaks and accessories

 

 

Also.....some of you who have spent a ton on CDs / records / downloads may want to include that.

 

***This thread is not to include actual $ amounts, but just percentages.  If you want to include $ amounts that is your privilege, but that was not the focus of this thread

 

For those unclear about the focus of the thread, it is merely to see which components in a system people are willing and eager to spend the most money on.

Really rough estimates since I don't remember everything:

 

Headphones: 59%

Amps: 26%

Sources: 15%

Cables/tweaks: less than 0.5% (not a typo)

My system is simple: CDP>Amp>Headphones, and basically works out 50% source, 35% amp, 15% headphones.  Cables were trivial, NOS tubes were not, so in the end the amp might be 40% with the source and phones adjusted downward a little.

In my portable system it is:

 

75% Headphones

25% Source

 

In my current home system it is:

 

33% Headphones

55% Amp

11% Source

Already had a ton of source material

Portable System

 

 

  • Headphones...40%
  • Amplifiers...35%
  • Sources...15%
  • cables / tweaks and accessories...10%

 

Not included is music, which is equal too 50 to 60% of the equipment value

Amps: 20%
Sources: 19%
Cables/tweaks: 1%

The cable/tweak amount would be even lower if I hadn't bought matching cables from Blue Jeans.

Amp: 12.5%

Digital Source: 6.5%

Analog source (inc phono stage): 20%

Cables: 10%

Music: 50%

0.5 Cables and Tweaks

 

I actually had to sit and think about how much I've spent on CDs over the years.....its very upsetting

For me it will be 50% for headphones and 50% for dac/amp. It will be JH-13 and JH-3a

Wow, this inspired me to do a total cost analysis of all my systems...  I took out the prices to keep with the spirit of the thread, but you can figure them out (wink) if you try.

 

I am definitely a "transducer-first" and "amp to match" type of guy!
