I wish DAP and Amp manufacturers would adopt the USB standard for charging

Thanks to the EU, most cell phone manufacturers (sans Apple of course) have adopted the USB standard for charging.

I wish all portable amp & DAP manufacturers would do the same.  Although the DAP industry is getting better, the amp industry is way behind.

Actually Apple do support USB charging.  The cables from the mobile guys are not all standard either so no difference at all really.  If I wanted to be pedantic I would say that the rest are just playing catch up as Apple kit has been charging from USB for a number of years now.

Edit:  I completely agree with your thought on amp suppliers!

What I'm referring to is that almost all cell phone manufacturers have gone to the micro-USB standard, so you only need ONE cable to use over all brands.

I know it's a small gripe, but let's say you go on vacation and bring the following:

-- iPhone or other phone

-- DAP

-- portable amp

Now you're bringing 3 cables with you as well.  It would be nice to only have to bring ONE cable to cover all devices.

I have to give kudos to the designers of the Headstage Arrow amp and many iBasso amps because they incorporate a AC-to-DC rectifier on board so you don't need to carry around a bulky wall cable, but only a mini-USB cable (which subsequently is the same cable for my Sansa Clip... ahhh.. convenience).

The only problem is that SoulSyde didn't say it. English is your friend!

I believe I did.  The thread topic says "wish DAP and Amp manufacturers would adopt the USB standard for charging."

Since the USB standard for charging is such a common subject in the cell phone market I figured that everyone would understand what I was getting at without having to paint a picture.  Source: http://gizmodo.com/5154851/european-commission-pushing-micro+usb-standard-for-cellphone-chargers

DAPs could use the micro-usb port for charging, but I think some amps would need more than 5v, 500mA for charging

That's a good point.  I may be incorrect here, but you could charge at a higher rate using a small wall plug like the ones sold with HTC phones (See below), correct?  It's my understanding that the 0.5A/5v limit is set by the motherboard.

Well if he had said the USB connector it would have made sense but he didn't, he just said USB charging so thats what i responded to.

Way to make someone feel welcome.  Guess I won't be coming back again.  Your loss...

Get some thicker skin dude.

Its not about thicker skin it's basic manners.  To get a put down from someone, who is obviously a regular poster, on the day I join for my third post is a pretty poor indication of the type of posters here.  Your response just adds to that feeling.

Rather than taking a swipe, he could have pointed out what it what I had failed to understand.  That way I would have learned something positive rather than the fact that this forum is populated by arrogant bigots.

nvm.

With a wall wart usb charger you can possibly charge at a higher amperage than .5A, but the USB spec is 5V. Anything that provides a voltage significantly more than 5V is out of spec and isn't usb.

Paul,

I'll be the big man here and say something that you very rarely hear on a web forum... I'm sorry.

Stick around, it's a nice community.  And, maybe I got a bit carried away.
