Burson HA160 + Senn HD650 = a great match?? other amps that going well with HD650 are also welcomed - Page 2

If you're planning to get a (Burson) Headphone amp + DAC (that is, if you're using your computer as source), I think the best value would be the newly released Burson HA160DS (http://bursonaudio.com/HA_160DS.html). It is a stripped down version of the HA160D. The price is also close to HA160. As far as I know, it uses the same implementation of headphone amp stage as the HA160, with only 1 headphone output and an Alps pot volume control, plus the high quality DAC (AFAIK, same design/components/implementation as the DAC of HA160D).

Does it make the HD 650's fast enough to work wonders with electronic music genres like goa trance and dark psytrance?

And how is the neutrality with this pairing?

My setup is USB -> MF VDAC -> CK2III -> HD650's, and seems plenty fast to me while listening to Infected Mushroom.

BTW what goa/psytrance groups are you listening to?

BTW, I own the HA160, used it with my Beyer DT990 600-ohm. I preferred this combo when listening to my rock music  collection (I often listen to classic rock, to 90's alternative, to nu metal genre). For me, this combo also works (almost) perfect with jazz-rock (e.g. Spyro Gyra, Dave Matthews Band, etc), and w/ some female vocals.

I haven't used the HD650 yet so I cannot comment or compare. It can drive the 600-ohm Beyer easily and flawlessly (I usually listen @12 o'clock volume position), and for sure it will also drive the HD650 easily.

Goa trance: Bodh Gaya, Jake Stephenson, Darshan, The Green Nuns Of The Revolution, Brainman,

(Dark) Psytrance: The Nommos, Viktor Zolotarenko, Candy Power, Enichkin, Ocelot,

Psybient: Shpongle, Makyo, Jake Stephenson, Nimba, Entheogenic, Salvinorin,

I could make this list much longer, but I think I have mentioned some of the finest.

PS Audio GCHA and Violectric V200. The HD650 does well with more power.

Thanks, new stuff for me to check out as I'm pretty new to the genre.

Good question! Some say the Burson's sound is warm and that it won't boost the HD 650's treble, some say the opposite.

I have a good feeling about this combination smile.gif, but my intuition could be wrong.
