I have an Onkyo TX-SR805. I have several source components all going into the receiver using HDMI (and one analog source). I can't think of any good way to integrate a headphone amp so I can choose between headphones or speakers.

1. The receiver has an optical output, but it doesn't output sound from HDMI or analog sources.

2. The receiver has analog outputs for a second zone, the tape, and the VCR. These also do not output sound from HDMI sources.

3. It has preamplified outputs, but they are volume controlled. Muting the speakers would also mute a headphone amp hooked up here.

The only solution I have come up with is to run the headphone amp off of the receivers headphone port, but it seems counter-productive to hook an amp up to an amplified port. Does anybody else try to integrate like this? Am I missing something?
