Quick Transformer Current Output Question. (Volt Amp = ?)

Hi,

I'm building a simple 1A power supply for some simple amps I am going to be making. So I am looking for transformers, which is the only thing missing from my shopping cart.

I need a transformer with about 2A on the secondary coming from 115-120VAC but all of the transformers on Mouser are speced by VA (volt ampere). Now volt and amp are pretty different so a.) I am unsure what this measurement does, b.) How does it relate to current output?

So if something was 30VA, is it possible to convert VA to just straight up A?

Thanks.

You need to divide your VA by your secondary.

Example with 12V secondary:

30VA / 12V = 2.5 A on secondary.
