Not a side-by-side but having now spent time with both I can't say there is a notable difference between the non-balanced output but it could be the 22's mids are a tad more present but without having both amps in front of me I can't say for certain.
 

Is the WA22 feed with balanced input?  I notice there is a big difference with SE and balanced input on the WA22, even with SE out with HD800.

jc, may I ask what you are using for a balnced source feeding your WA22?

I'm using PS Audio PerfectWave DAC.

The WA22 has two pair of input, balanced 3 pix XLR and unbalanced RCA. My balanced source is a Cambridge DacMagic, the unbalanced is a Yamaha SACD player.

DM has se outputs too I assume, can you hook it up and do a quick toggle test?
