X-Mini II Capsule or X-Mini Max II?

Which one would you recommend?

Does the X-mini max constitutes a notable improvement since it has 2 speakers? How is the stereo then ?

Thanks for sharing your opinion, at this point I really can't make up my mind.

In my opinion they are both pretty bad. I have owned them both (I'm very sensitive to gadgets) but ended up never using them. They sound too crappy (thin, cheap, no bass, distort easily) and break easily. You'll be better off with something like a JBL On Tour or Fiio S9. I now have the On Tour and actually use it! smily_headphones1.gif It runs on batteries and the sound quality is decent for something that size. MUCH better than the X-Mini's.

Well, I saw your message too late frown.gif, I had already Ordered the X-Mini Max II

But the JBL Fiios S9 looked indeed like a good option...

It depends...the X Mini Max II is good at vocal music, they don't have much bass but the mid and high are acceptable.

OK, I've just received my X-mini Max II and gotta say.. Oh man it's such a disappointement! frown.gif

Design is good and the product looks well-finished and polished.

But when it comes to sound qual... oh my god. A disaster. They simply have zero bass and it sounds rough, unprecise, messy, noisy. Makes my timbers bleed.

I'm even not a real audiophile and I got average ears! But when you got performances like that, I'd rather not listening to music. OK Ok only 40€ with shipping what would I except? but seriously that was 40€ wasted, I swear I will never listen to anything on it, that's ridiculous. Keep your money for something else if you care just a little bit about sound qual...

So, could someone suggest similar products (portable+battery+jack plug) with a better quality? Don't mind if more expensive and little less portable.

Is the Fiios S9 a major improvement? Other ideas? Btw Negakinu what did you with your X-mini? Thanks you guys!

edit: omg I just gave it another try, it's pathetic, a nightmare, might be a joke, who would bear this, please help me!

edit2: fiio S9 doesn't look available in France :/

I threw mine away after the usb connector broke off inside the speaker.

The Fiio S9 is a big improvement but it's rather bulky. It's VERY cheap though and definitely worth the dough. The JBL On Tour is my current favorite portable speaker. It's pretty small, runs on batteries, is cheap and sounds good enough for a small impromptu party. Even speakers like the Altec Lansing Orbit are better than the X-Mini's.

You shouldn't expect too much sound quality from a really small portable speaker though. How big/how expensive are you willing to go? Some of the portable speaker solutions cost up to $300.

Let's say I'm ready for a price range of 65€<x<125€

Awesome man !!

However, these products all seem to be designed for the ipod, how could I use them with my Sony X?

hahaha you didn't say anywhere you were using a Sony X. smily_headphones1.gif Anyway, the JBL On Stage has a special Sony X version you can try. All the other speakers I mentioned have a 3.5mm connection as well, so you can use any interconnect cable. It's hard to find a decent speaker WITHOUT an Apple dock. I had a Sony X as well btw. Sold mine though.

Also, you can buy the Fiio S9 over at mp4nation.net or sites like dealextreme.com. They ship worldwide for free. I bought my S9 at dealextreme.com, all you need is paypal. When you're in France you can also shop at amazon.de I think. Or Ebay!

Just pick the one you want and let me know, I'll try to find the cheapest option in France for you.

Yeah about the Sony X thing,... for some reason I mixed up with my topic at anythingbutipod...

Following your advices, I'm really considering getting a JBL OnTour (for about 65€ euros). I'm looking for a shop that accepts exchanges in case I'm still not satisfy with the product, and I'll the the JBL OnStage for Walkmans (for about 155€).

What do you think? Should the OnTour be enough? Or should I go directly for the OnStage?

And what about the JBL On Tour XTB http://www.jbl.com/EN-US/Products/Pages/ProductDetails.aspx?PID=JBLONTOURXTBBLK? Thanks!

If you haven't decided yet, the Edifier MP300PLUS is also pretty nice. smily_headphones1.gif And not that expensive.

I think the JBL Sony dock is really nice. But it's more cash than I would pay for a portable speaker. You can buy some decent active monitors for that amount. smily_headphones1.gif

Well, I should get the X mini II in about a week, lets see how bad it is.

none are going to have bass at that size, only way you can get bass that small is of you hold them right up against your ears, but then you may as well have a headp.... the physical size of the diaphram limits the frequency response

Hey qusp!

Yeah well, that is totally expected of this thing. I will mainly use to take showers, listen to recorded lectures, as alarm, etc., sound quality is not much of an issue.

This thing gets a lot of raving reviews out there though.

Edit: What I do hope for is that it doesn't distort much.
