Thought about it, but decided against it for now because just paid for a HE60/HEV70 combo and also waiting for the Edition 10s. I may pick one up later, but I would like to test drive one first to see how heavy they are. I'll audition them at the next meet.
I'm sure Sennheiser no longer sells the HE90 drivers either, just swaps them for the old ones like they do with the HE60s as part of the factory service. But the HE60 drivers "only" cost 550 Euros, plus anything else they have to replace on top of them. Amazing prices, as you say, these are collectors items.

I have two pairs of HE90's and they cost 8,500-9,000$ in 2011.
I have seen the price went up to 13,000$ and the best recent price of HE90/HEV90 =12000$ (2months ago)
However the most recent price in audiogon and ebay for the HE90/HEV90's are more than 25,000$ / set.
Chinsettawong in Thailand has just finished the first of two DIY T2's , he said the HE90 sounds
wonderful with the DIY T2 and it's the best electrostatic headphone in our opinion.
We will have a mini-meeting this coming Saturday , we will have a chance to listen to his DIY T2
with HE90, HE60, O2mkI, SR Omega, SR009 and his DIY electrostatic headphone. He said that
his DIY headphone sounds more like the HE90 than other Stax but more difficult to drive than O2mkI.
Here is the pictures of some of the phones that will be at the minimeeting
Happy thansgiving.
