I know there are tons and tons of threads on this topic, believe me I'm reading a lot of them. I thought something more current might help some newer head-fier's out.

 

(ahem, me for starters i guess)

 

To keep the thread respectable, there's a given list of what two amps (users can select two) you think would best pair with the HD650. List is based on a rough estimate of amps in the $500 (new/used) and below price range, DIY and manufactured. If anyone strongly feels this lists needs another amp (under $500 new/used) added, let me know.

What about the WA6? It seems to get great reviews around here paired with the HD650. This poll is also relevant to my interests so would love to get some people experienced with these combos in here!

I'm not going to vote because I don't have any amps yet.... but FYI, I ordered the Bottlehead Crack amp.  Didn't get speedball, but will see how great it sounds when I get it.

 

Right now I'm going HD600 straight from an X-Fi card.  I think it sounds awesome but am missing some base.  I'm hoping I get a large improvement smily_headphones1.gif

You will get a large improvement by amping the HD600, no doubt about it.

I have an Audio-GD C2 that I use and like with the HD650.  Its well under $500 when shipped and works great, much better than my SOHA, though I didn't have the JISBOS upgrade in mine.

That's true. Another consideration that people seem to enjoy here with the HD650 is the Darkvoice 332. This list will be 50 amps long in no time~!

i just got myself the hd650 as well. im using the audinst mx1 as a dac/headamp combo. however im also wondering if an amp will improve the sound. this will be my first set of  full sized amp, probably going for second han ones.

HeadAmp GS-1.

Had this combination in the past, and they sound absolutely wonderful paired together.

The GS-1 brings out the best the 650's have to offer.

I loved it through my GLite without the DPS for about a year, love it more now. A worthy upgrade.

you would probably have to throw the HDP into the mix as well on top of the tube amps like Woo that have reportedly good synergy with the HD650s.

You should add the Woo Audio WA3 and Schiit Valhalla to your list. Probably the Little Dot IVSE if you don't mind importing from overseas.
