Anyone Suffering From Tinnitus?

Probably one of the worst things that could happen to a headphone listener is tinnitus.

For guys who don't know the term, tinnitus is the phantom ringing (generally ringing or beeping) sound in the ear. In one of them or both of them. Other kinds of phantom sounds are also classified as tinnitus. Such as, buzzing and hissing...

Actually, it doesn't have to be a phantom sound. It can be a real sound inside one's ears, caused by bones. In this situation, it's called objective tinnitus and the sound can be heared by other people when they listen closely to the sufferer's ears.

In other cases it's subjective tinnitus which can be heared only by the sufferer.

Well... A month ago i've been diagnosed with tinnitus. But i study in Istanbul and i wanted to go to a more quality hospital, which i did today. I've just come home. Unfortunately, nothing's changed. biggrin.gif A very slight minor inflamation the doctor discovered in my pharynx which could be the cause of this tinnitus thing. I'm gonna be using a spray for a week, then we'll do some "sound perception tests", though i have no sound loss in my ears, which is good.

The only thing is that i hear buzzing noise when everything is quite, which i will try not to hear. smily_headphones1.gif (Well, i'm trying to be optimistic anyways.)

I have some tinnitus in both ears. Different sounds in each of them.

And tbh, it's not that bad. Only hear it when it's completely silent, and I dont have any problems sleeping with it.

Same here but i also hear when i turn off the sound and still wear the headset.

The only thing i'm not comfortable with, is this.

I have some mild tinnitus in my right ear due to loud HP's listening (thanks Grado!). it doesn't bother me at present, but if it'd get worse is a frightening thought

I also have mild tinnitus-mostly in my left ear.

It's a very high pitched ringing. the weird thing is it's a

little louder at times, then almost unperceptable at other times.

I notice it more when all is silent, and it does not bother me at

night. It also seems to be more prevalent when my blood pressure

is higher (talking to difficult people on the phone, or dealing with my ex!)

I'm pretty sure it was caused by years of using yard equipment (mowers,

blowers, weedeaters, etc.) and firing weapons w/o ear protection.

Hindsight is always 20/20!!!!

All serious audiophiles should get into the habit of having an annual hearing test.

Tinnitus is the usual motivation for this, but in reality, noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) is slow and insidious in its onset -- often with no audible symptoms.

You get your teeth and eyes checked regularly - why not your ears?

By establishing a baseline test, then retesting annually, you'll have a much better chance to spot a problem before you have serious damage.

Actually, in the fall of 2006 I was diagnosed with tinnitus.  I still suffer from it mildly, but it is manageable.  The interesting thing is that mine was not induced from loud noises, but more likely by ear and sinus infections.

Yup,  mine to. Had alot of ear infections as a child.

Just bad luck I guess.

I have had mild tinnitus for 7 years. And no, it was not caused by exposure to loud music or noise. Cause is unknown, no ear infection, no hearing problems..it's wierd but that's the way it is...

Now I am not bothered by it at all, but I still remembered how I was driven nuts by the ringing noise in the beginning and the time it took for me to get used to it.

What bothers me is that we're probably a mere 100 years or so from having technology that can repair damaged hearing.

In cosmological perspective that's nothing.

There's just one thing about tinnitus that bums me out, but I'm not gonna say it.

Don't want you guys to start thinking about it.

I have mild tinnitus, most likely thanks to rock concerts and ear infections years ago.

It's a much wider spread thing than most people realize. Many talented performers also have tinnitus, I recall Eric Clapton talking about it in an interview one time.

I'm very sorry to hear that you are in the same boat...   It really does stink to have developed this problem in my late 20s...

Yep, I had terrible ear infections as a child that in some cases made my ears bleed.  When I was 12, the hearing in my left ear was down 58DB, my right was down 45DB. I had drainage tubes put in in both ears and my hearing returned back to normal. Well, almost normal. I believe I have a slight loss in both ears.

Anyway, now I can hear well. But, I suffer from tinnitus. It's in the 13Khz range and can be very annoying sometimes.  I really don't notice it unless I think about it, though. Out of mind, out of hearing, I guess.

So, yes, I am unlucky, I guess you could say. But that's just the way God made me. I'm thankful to be able to hear okay now. Especially now that I have some nice headphones. dt880smile.png

^ literal ear bleeding?  You're giving me nightmares.  frown.gif

I already freak out if I even get a normal ear infection.
