How much better is Apple lossless quality? - Page 6

But a Fuze wouldn't play Apple Lossless files anyway... rendering this thread entirely useless. It would only play FLACs if you RockBoxed it and IIRC the latest iteration of the Fuze only has a very unstable port of RB.

I'd say just to get an iPod since they have consistently good line-out functions, so you can use a portable amp down the line if you so wish. Lossless isn't magic, and won't fix crappy recordings, althought it might add the tiniest extra bit to a truly amazing recording. For everything else, there's MasterCard V0 VBR/320kbps. The difference is only there when you listen for it, which is not when I'm on the bus to school. It's when I'm lying on my bed in the dark with my eyes shut listening to my home rig with every ounce of my soul.

Remember though: Once you've had FLAC, you can never go back.

Um, the Fuze plays FLAC even without Rockbox....it has for quite a while now.

I'm currently using a rockboxed Clip+ and the release, albeit labeled "unstable", is pretty stable, no problems whatsoever. I would expect the Fuze port to be this stable.

My player now supports tons of codecs (including Apple Lossless), sounds great, and you can't really beat the form factor.

The Fuze has a line out too.
