what is the highest capacity mp3 player on the market?

Thread Starter

The largest I can find is the Archos 5 500gb. That seems like overkill for me.  I have a 120gb ipod classic right now, but was wondering if there was something between the 200gb range and that 500 gb max. I know the classic is 160gb right now, but I would rather have something bigger.

I also know you can open up older ipod classics and put in 240 gb hard drives, but I would rather see what options I have right out of the box instead of doing a fix to something.

btw, is the archos 5, or even the archos lineup, any good compared to ipod in terms of sound quality, etc?

Or buy a iPod 5.5g and upgrade it to 240gb yourself with a http://www.apricorn.com/product_detail.php?type=family&id=42.

After playing around with 5.5g iPods I decided not to get a refurbished one. If you want me to expand on the reasons simply ask wink.gif

The problem with the 240gb iPods is that when you get above a certain number of files the iTunesDB breaks down because the amount of memory in the device can't handle the DB, seems to be around 30k files.  I've been trying to work around that but haven't had success yet.

On the other hand, if you have a smaller number of larger (lossless) files, go for it.
