i used to have bi-color dreadlocks, 5 piercings in my face, tongs of rings, jewelry, bracelets, outlandish clothes, the works.  I totally did it for attention, though i would have vehemently denied that. Everyone stared at me and it was actually hard to handle. I dressed this way for many years.  then one day for no apparent reason, i decided it wasn't for me, took out all my piercings, cut my hair, changed my clothes, and slowly morphed my appearance into completely ordinary.

I used to think of myself as so different.. and of course in the grand scheme of whats normal, i actually was.. but i was convinved i was more open minded than most, more cultured, intelligent, kind...etc. etc.  funny thing was, I wasn't.  I just wanted to be., and i wanted to find some kind of identity.

whenever people stared at me i got so angry..years have passed, and i see people .. usually teenagers who look like i did, or wear outlandish digs, and i always chuckle.  we were screaming for attention, but if anyone looks at us who doesn't look like us we get so upset.

anywho.. there are obviously many people who don't fit the herd mentality, and don't like to blend into it, but for me.. being someone who is hardly "normal" by most standards..and having led a life that would cause most "normal" people's jaws to hit the floor, and now having been a monk for 6 years, i have actually come to embrace blending in.  I know who I am and it doesnt really matter if anyone else does or not.

Its like wearing a disguise... and its fun to stare at all the "freaks" as we were called and see how many of them scowl at me for staring, while secretly inside, i think to myself.. oh you have no idea ...   ;-)

Nipple ring on left nipple, got it on a whim, had to remove it for MMA, no regrets about getting it or about taking it out. smily_headphones1.gif

Also dyed hair bleach blond and cut it very short, was a nice look, especially when my natural brown hair grew out so it looked like I just colored the tips.  Had fairly short purple hair for a few weeks, was an OK look, just not something I'd do regularly.  Definitely thinking of coloring it purple again though, just for kicks - started at a new company this week as chief of software engineering, should be nice to break the mold us engineers usually look like - black motorcycle, funky shirts and purple hair.

Well that's just handy!

Also, I'm not sure if "stretcher" is an appropriate word... Given it's sexual nature. wink.gif

I judge people by their character, their morals and intelligence, you can look the way you want, don´t bother me at all.

that picture looks like you'd have a hard time with good iems, even customs. on this site that raises some obvious questions!  wink.gifetysmile.gif

that term 'flesh tunnels' may connote other things as well.....

But I also can't think of many who look better with the mods.  I feel much the same way with implants and anything other than reconstructive plastic surgery.  I think people look better the more natural they are.

Personal opinion is that I understand the mentality that goes into most of these are just a means of saying l really don't with agree industrial society's expectations of normalcy. In other words, FU, watta ya think of me now? While it is a stance of independence, I've never been public in my rebellion. For those that do take it another notch I believe are just screaming a little louder.

In all, I've never seen a baby born with a Grateful Dead skull on their backside so anything else is just condiments to taste.

much agreed. why deform yourself and be stuck with it? it's one thing to play with hair, clothes etc to make your fashion statements. but why would you think that what appeals to you in your teens or twenties will still appeal to you later in your life? and, as pointed out in this thread, it may limit you both professionally & personally. you may want to make yourself stand out but really you may just put people off.

people don't usually stop to think about it, but as most dermatologists and dentists are acutely aware, nature matches your complexion, hair color, gum color, and tooth color and altering these often gives poor results. too many out there these days feel the need to emulate this tired dyed blond & made up look that is just phony looking and often comes up as a caricature, rather than being appealing or beautiful. but at least that's temporary and easily reversible. dying your skin and having things punched through it can have negative consequences other than the aforementioned ones. sometimes people get awfully sick from infections.

i think both are awesome!! biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

i don't understand why people say "ewww gross" either.   unless you're deathly afraid of needles, there's nothing gross about it at all.   skin stretches, i find it quite fascinating.
