Hey guys. I am looking for a cheap way to make HD650 cables a little more durable and "pretty". I really like the look of the moon audio blue and silver dragons. Does anyone know what materials would be needed to make something similar and where you can typically get them? I am looking mainly for looks here, and to not mess with the sound of the cable at all. Thanks for any assistance!

you could get sleeving and flex it over your stock cable, and seal off the ends with heatshrink to make it look neat and pretty.
do you want to build a cable from scratch? then the most important things are those Cardas HPSC plus (available on Ebay). they will run you $16. then you can just get wire, sleeving, heatshrink and connectors off partsexpress and go at it.

I'm not really looking to make a whole new cable. Really just to maybe add things to the current one to make it look like the blue or silver dragons from moon audio
There's cheap $25 HDMI cables we sell at work that look pretty similar so I assume the looks side of it isn't too expensive to do?

Not hard at all no. Have a look at what ebay seller furryletters has to offer. To top it off I would solder on a nice Neutrik 1/4 plug.
But what I really would do is build a cable from scratch. Get some nice quad cable, sleeving, nice plug, sleeving and heat shrink. :-)

I think that may be beyond my league haha. TBH I have NO idea what is inside of a cable, and I have no doubt if I tried my Senns would then be as useless as my $7 Target headphones hahaha. That being said, I will do some research and see what I can muster up. Thanks!

It is very easy and after you know how a headphone cable is being made you will laugh at the ridiculous prices cable manufacturers are asking. You need a total of four wires. Two of them are reserved for the positive terminals the other two for ground. Both left and right channels share the same ground so that's why you see three terminals on your connector.
In case of Sennheiser cables it is even easier since it doesn't involve soldering straight to the driver. Instead you use Sennheiser connectors.

Oh ok. So basically I need cables, sleeving, a plug and heat shrink? Would you mind please linking me to a cable as I have no idea what type of cable is meant to be used? Also I am assuming you can buy the sennhieser connectors from them directly? Thanks for your help

I wouldn't know about Sennheiser plugs but I think eBay is a safe bet. A lot of head-fiers use Canare or Mogami quad wire (or Neglex) for recable purposes but then any OFC (oxygen free copper) wire is probably just as good. You can also try eBay for some SPC (silver plated copper) wire and I know for a fact that a lot of head-fiers use eBay seller Navship's.
