HiFiMAN HM-801: Desktop-Class Digital Sound, To Go - Page 6

I decided to try the LCD-2 with my 801 as source and amp tonight, and I was surprised and liked the sound a lot.  I was afraid the LCD-2 would sound dark with it like with my ZDT, but they didn't.  Chalk one up to experience.

Is there an upgrade on the HM-801 coming soon? I would hate to buy one and then to find an upgrade release after a couple o weeks...

The only "upgrade" I am aware of is in the software.

Great review, really tempted to pick one up after selling my 601.

Hi, can anyone link to the latest software/firmware update?  Can't find it on their site, thanks!

Discussion thread here.  I didn't even know there was an update until I looked for one just now.

I can't decide between the HM-801+GAME amp card and the iPod+Fostex HP-P1 combo. I would like the most balanced and detailed sound. Any help?

I've created a thread in the portable source section, but without much success.

Any comment would much appreciated.

I suspect the fostex combo may be better for you as the Hifiman while detailed is quite dark sounding in my experience.

Thanks a lot for your reply. I also suspect the same, because I always tend to neutral/balanced gear instead of those with heavily biased sound signatures.
