WTB : Velour earpads for AKG K340 headphones?

Hello,

I am looking to buy velour earpads that will fit my AKG K340 headphones, once I get them back up and running again. I hate the stock ones because, to me, they are too hot and sweaty

If anyone out there has a pair, or knows someone else who might, please PM me.

I know that you can probably get them from AKG, but I really don't want to wait forever.

Questions:

Will the velour replacement earpads for the K271, that Headroom sells as the 271 S, fit on the K340?

If I do wind up having to get a pair from AKG that will actually fit, what is the current part number?

Thanks so much for your help.

yes, the k271 pads are the right ones, they were never made for the k340, so people use the k271/k240 ones. be careful when you put them on because it is a bit of a stretch

read install experiences here:

http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/202478/k340-and-the-velour-pads

also popular around here are the pads that kt88 sells

http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/291951/fs-costum-akg-pads-for-k340-as-well-as-k240-and-maybe-others

you may also be able to use some beyerdynamic pads if you wish

Thanks pistolsnipe.

So the velour K271 S pads that Headroom sells will fit the 340?

Which Beyerdynamic pads might fit the K340's?

Thanks again.

The K271, K240 and K340 all use the same exact pads.  so it's not a question of whether K271 pads will fit- they are the same exact thing.

The fit is tighter on the K340 with the pleather pads as well, and I imagine the velour just isnt as flexible.  But you clearly know how to use your hands if you took apart the k340 I sent you so I wouldn't worry about it.

The reason I was wondering is because on the Headroom website where it talks about the the replacement velour pads for the K271, it says the replacement velour pads for K271S, 'will fit the K271S headphones ONLY'. I was puzzled on why it said that. Check it out.

Anyway, thanks to all for your help and advice.

That might be because that's the only headphone they sound good on. Never heard them on a k340 but on the k240 it's yucky

scratch the beyerdynamic pads, they are too small to fit (at least the dt770 were for me)

Just received pads for K340 from KT88. They are very soft leather & are the correct oblong shape for the ear opening of the 340's. These pads do not make your ears sweat like the original pads; I tried a pair of K340's at a meet in July for an extended period of time. I can highly recommend these as the correct pads for the K340's.

Thanks everyone.

So KT88 still sells the replacement earpads for the 340's?

If so, thats great news.

I just sent him a PM.

KT88 might still have them.  They do change the sound though, kind of in the opposite way as the velours.  The KT88's at least on the K240, add a bit of treble and air and soundstage, and make the bass tighter, but a bit less volume.  I haven't heard them on the K340, I just assume it would be the same.

I just got a couple pairs from AKG/Harmon in Southern California. $34.90 per pair + shipping. This was last week. They were in stock and arrived at my place in Northern California in a few days.

I specified the K271 velour ear cushions, part #2955M10020.

When they arrived I was anxious that they may not fit because the cushions I removed seemed to be about 1/4 inch larger at the point where they grip the shell. But they ended up fitting perfectly. The old ones had stretched and were holding the new dimensions.

Installation was not a piece of cake, but I took note of prior posters' instruction to stretch them a bit before trying. I discovered (or maybe overlooked in an earlier post) that the final trick when stretching the cushion over the shell is to slip your finger underneath the cushion and push the flap so its last edges will slip securely over the edge of the shell.

Final result is great -- it solves the very annoying sweaty pad syndrome.
