ETYMOTIC ER4 & TEFLON CABLE - 3 IN 1

hey guys long time reader, first time poster. I recently came into the world of IEM after no longer enjoying large cans around. So like all the other newbis in IEM I decided to go ahead with the Etymotic ER4 series, the S editions. I am quiet happy with it, I have pair them up with Fiio E7 and Sony walkman, however the microphonics cause by the line is some what not comfortable. I know there are modification avaliable but I am not to happy with those mods as they seem somewhat not friendly on the cable.

So I found this cable http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ETYMOTIC-ER4-IN-EARPHONE-UPGRADE-TEFLON-CABLE-3-1-/300416341321?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item45f2359549 .

They seem quiet nice, nice built quality. However I did not found any information about them in this forum.

Would I be better off with the APure sound cable and do the mods or buy this?

Alex builds excellent cables and stands behind his products way beyond what most would consider normal. Although the cables you posted look very nicely made do you wish to run the risk? At $50-$75 I would but not at a tad over $100.

The ebay one looks actually kind of cool, it has a resistor network on it so you can choose the various resistance options for different gear.

It does look nice. It would be better if the connectors are angled.

I am not totally sold out on the 3-1 feature as I am sure the armature used for the B version is different and has nothing to do with the cabling unlike he P vs S. Yes the risk not be worth taking at this price range. I will contact the seller and see what is the best I can do this.

Thank you guys

Actually you are wrong about it.The balanced armature on all three models (B, S, and P) are the same (Knowless 9689), it is the cable that are different. Inside the pod on the cable, 4B has capacitors bypass by resistors, 4S has high value resistors, and 4P has low value resistor. You can swap the earpiece between the three models if you want. I can confirm this because I have seen picture of cracked open 4B, 4S and 4P before, not to mention Etymotic has a patent on the ER4 that you can check out on the patent office's website. On a separate note, the eBay seller AWWAN is a fairly reliable seller and he knows ER4 very well. He has been selling ER4 accessories (replacement cable, adapter, etc) as long as I can remember (about 3~4 years now) and plenty of ER4P user in the forum have his P-S adapter, including me.

Thank you for conforming AWWAN been a good selecrtion. I really enjoy reading your post on the forum.

I'll order this cable for now and in a near future look for an amp worthy of this legendary IEMs. I just dont feel it with fiio E7, I feel the IEM chokes whenever there is a strong base coming in the track. Dont know if this is due to the IEM or FIIO.

ER4 has never known for having a big bass, that's just the way it is. You should definitely wait for the cable first, if you ever decided to order it. If you still don't like the bass response after that, I will suggest you get an amp with really big bass boost, a cMoyBB perhaps.
