I need a new pair of headphones and am completely lost in the limitless choices

The title pretty much says it all, I know what I want in a pair of headphones but I don't really know how to get it.

I'll just get right into it.

System: I want full sized headphones that fit completely around my ears, comfort is kind of a big issue because I wear glasses and I usually listen to my music for hours at a time. I'm really tired of my ears hurting for hours after I finish listening.

I need to be able to take them places with out any sort of amp. When I listen to anything it's usually coming out my iPod and I don't want to have to buy a separate portable amp. I primarely listen to music through my iPod. It's usually rather high quality so I don't really need headphones that are forgiving.

Type of Sound: I want some headphones that are pretty bass heavy but at the same time don't over power everything else. That's about all I can say having not had much experience with headphones besides some of Skullcandy's mid level bunch (like the Skullcrushers and Lowriders). I'm actually looking for a new pair of headphones because my Skullcrushers broke. I really liked them but I've come to realize that they were extremely overpriced for what they actually provided.

Style: Besides wanting over the head/over the ear I really don't care about style at all. I don't care if they're humongous and the worst shade of green you could ever imagine. Actually, It would be kinda nice if they were just black.

Music Interests: Most of my music is simply Alternative/Classic Rock. Favorite bands include Pearl Jam, The Who, The Black Keys, Pixies, Modest Mouse, The EELS, Radiohead, The Toadies, Fugazi, and The White Stripes. That's obviously not all but you get the idea. Basically just 4 man bands with the classic one guitarist (or maybe two), one bassist, one drummer, and one singer (probably male).

Price Range: I'm really really really hoping to stay at or below 50.00 USD (the lower the better), if what you recommend is a little over that (like 15 or so dollars) don't worry about it, I can usually find a pair of headphones a lot cheaper than the msrp.

So that's all I can think of to say, if there's some info I left out that would help you give a better recommendation please tell me and I will do the best I can to provide it.

Thanks for the help in advance.

koss portapros - best headphones under 100$ ever

JVC HARX700

These're about the best full size headphones for $50 or less.

They are very comfortable, even with glasses on, and sound great from portable devices without amping. There was quite a thread about these in the headphone forum.

I looked at those ones for a long time but I really want some that completely cover my ears, those are more on ear. I might buy them later as sort of a back up though, thanks!

Hadoe, fill your profile! If we new where you are at you could be invited for a mini meet for you to try different gear. For rock I say Grado SR225, although you may wish to start with the SR60 to get your feet wet. Good luck.

But why did you cross-post it here?

Since the headphone sub-forum clearly is the right place for headphone related questions...

Thanks for the advice about my profile, but both of the Grado's are a bit out my budget.

I'm new to the forum and I just figured I would get more answers if I posted it in 2 places.

Get them used, most here are very anal and we take good care of our gear. The SR60 could be found for $50 if you take  your time, good luck.

They're not comfortable and hurt like hell with glasses.
