Should I buy the M-Audio Av40s or wait?

Since I have been waiting awhile to get these speakers, I was wondering if I should wait longer? Do you think M-Audio will release anything within the next 4-5 months?

just buy 'em, it's not like you're breaking the bank or anything ... you can always upgrade later on

I'm on a limited budget... I don't have all the money in the world.

If you wait a few months will your budget be greater? I mean that gives you more time to save some more cash. If you can hold off, and save a little more money, I would skip the AV40s and get the BX5As or something similar. I owned the AV40s and then bought the BX5As, and wish I had just bought the BX5As right away.

Are the size differences that great? I have limited desk space. x]

The AV40s are 6" wide x 7 1/4" deep. The BX5As are almost 7" wide and 8" deep. The footprint isn't that much different.

My thoughts exactly. I also regretted getting the AV40 after hearing the BX5a, a different league entirely.

If you can, try to save up a bit more for a BX5a

What is the redefining feature that separates those two speakers?

I don't even know where to start to be honest. I mean they aren't even in the same class if you ask me. More power, deeper bass, clearer highs....the BX5A is just vastly superior in every aspect.

If I'm just a casual user, would the BX5As benefit me more?

Subscribed to this thread, in a similar boat as the OP. I also intended to buy a ~200$ subwoofer to go with either speaker, so don't really care for the bx5a extra bass. Bx5a deluxe doesn't have reliability problems, right?

I have read that some people have had problems with the earlier BX5As, not the deluxes, but I had mine(deluxe) for over a year, pushed them pretty hard, and never had any problems with them.

Hmm well I don't know about the OP but I'm just about sold then on the BX5A Deluxe, only question remaining however is:

My desk is a flat 22" deep and 72" wide.  The width obviously won't be a problem, but with the bx5a being 8-9" deep would I run into trouble?  People seem to suggest like 12" of space between the wall and speaker, but I can only afford 2-5" of space without the speaker being 1 foot away from my face.

That's about the same space I had, and I never really ran into trouble with that. I know its a suggestion and preferred, but its not exactly the end all of it if you don't have that space. Bass may be a little boomier, but if you're not really using them to mix music, I wouldn't worry about it too much. I used cheap foam bed topper to try and reduce some of the bass reflex from the wall, can't honestly say if it made much of a difference as I wasn't really trying to listen for one.
