Samsung Yp-M1 vs cowon J3

Well i was sure i was going to buy a cowon j3. I searched all similar pmps and had my mine decided. But thne i bumped into Samsung M1 and i compared their specs. I noticed that M1 is actually  smaller than j3 (98.9 x 54.2 x 9.9 mm) vs (106.5 x 56 x 9.9 mm).

It seams its build quality is not plastic and stereo speakers. On the contrary cowon has better battery life.

I guess j3 sounds better, but i want my player to play good without effects. i dont want to try 40 effects to choose the best. And many people say that sound quality in j3 is not the best unless you play with the BBE. Anyone knows more about them? Their interface etc.

Last but not least, the cowon's screen's glass lifting problems is frustrating in front of samsung's quality.

i found both from exportprive, in almost the same price. 160euros

Thank you for any feedback.

I've got both.

No gapless playback on the M1.

Better video support on the M1.

J3 has external track controls.  M1 doesn't.

30 hours Music play on the M1 vs 64 hrs for the J3.

Longer opinions of both: M1  J3

Yeap i read both of your reviews. Am a fun

Well the hard button controls are really important, I remember back when i went from ericsson w850i to nokia and i couldnt skip tracks unless i unlocked screen.

If you could help me with this questions.

1. can you skip in j3 with screen locked right?

2. In M1, if you hold the volume controls you dont change track?

3. build quality,

4. sound quality.

5 and last but not least, how is their interface compared?

1. Yes. There is an option in settings to permit the buttons to work or not when the screen is locked.

2. No.  Holding either volume key of the M1 simply raises or lowers the volume faster.

3. The M1 feels like a little tank. I prefer the lighter J3 though.

4. Both top notch, however I miss the M1 not having gapless playback.

5. The J3's UI is a little backward thinking.  You go into the player, then have to go backwards to the file list.   Samsung makes the best use of touchscreen features I know of. You can go straight to the player or step into the file list first, depending on long or short taps of the icon.  Both require you get to know them a little to take good advantage.

Ok thank you a lot for feedback, i think i will stick with cowon j3. one last thing. samsung is and looks smaller from cowon right?

That's ok though cause battery and controls are more important.

You are quite welcome.  The M1 is shorter, but weighs more. They are very close to the same thickness. Screens are the same size.

+1 4 J3

i read that some sony sound better, but im going to try j3 first mainly for their eq.  u said u didnt want

"i dont want to try 40 effects to choose the best."   im pretty sure their are only 5-7 bands u need to tweak, not enough in my opinion but way better than most other dap i have read about, but their must be a few more with 5-10 band eq?????????? you definitely do not want preset eq like the ipod has for rock/jazz/classical etc.   nothing pisses me off more than this.

IMO J3 flat compared to other dap sound similar except for the signature of a player such as lots of Sony being warm. The EQ and battery sets it apart whether for better or worse as not everyone likes the EQ but it does give you lots of ways to customize the sound to your liking if EQ is your thing.

Yes you are right. It was silly for me to say that. I really want to customize my sound. Especially in some phones which need to. In my nokia 5530. i have custom presets for different iems. e.g my v-moda needs more sparkle at treble, so i have a preset called v-moda vibe.

But i also want my player to be trust worthy in flat and by playing with the eq just get more juice out of it.
