hey rawrster, you're a great IEM reviewer, are the DBA-02 the fastest of your lot?  Which of your IEM are best for this kind of music?  Answer would be highly appreciate thanks.

omg

Lol, both links are a little unsuitable i think . I usually test with flacs from The Gallery or Slaughter of The Soul. They surely aren't the fastest, but they are recorded & mastered at Fredman's Studios, which even then, produced music with very good sq.

Like I drew in the picture, I am looking for the start and finish of each note, a rawness and edge to the sound,

death-metal is usually too muffled and static sounding from what I've heard, and if I posted something like a solo violin performance at 13 notes per second it would sound too fast on slow 'phones, I use versailles because it has a good balance for perception of smoothness and attack.

The point is, If you can't pick out the notes and it sounds too muffled then you know it didn't do well the test.  Honeslty, I think the Versailles links are too slow and let too many phones off the hook.  What I like about my link is that either a phone can resolve the song or it can't.  Once you AB phones it becomes clear.

Btw, isn't power delivery a consideration if you are so concerned about getting the fastest IEM out there?

Ok, I will AB your link with more revealing phones later when I get the chance, and if you can provide a dl link to the best quality version of it that would be good too, tks

edit: power delivery, yes you mean like if someone is using 43ohm FA DBA-02 via an iPod shuffle or via a powerful desktop amp?

I do like the sound of Versailles though.

If you like guitar speed there's always Dragonforce.

Correct.  Or portable amp.

I'm not sure about the first part but the DBA-02 is definitely not the fastest in my collection. I sold those a long time ago to fund another purchase :) The DBA-02 is up there in terms of speed as well as instrument separation from the list of universals I've heard. The fastest universal I have would probably be the RE-Zero or the HJE900. Of course the only BA phone is fast as well but that's a different kind of earphone.

Really?

Well HJE900, Eterna, RE-Zero and ViSang R02 are the universals in my possession unless I'm missing something :P I haven't compared the HJE900 to the RE-Zero except for a maybe 10-15 minutes but more on signature. Other than that the RE-Zero hasn't gotten much use in a while.

I need to know what IEM I want before I consider a potential amp needed for it.

If people are reviewing high-tier IEM's via an iPod shuffle then they are inconsiderate, but that would affect soundstage and I-S moreso than speed unless you know something I don't =p

I despise dragonforce (and guitar hero mania), sorry.

Thanks =)

definately not DBA-02? well it's out of stock and more expensive anyway =p, so do you think I'd like RE-Zero or HJE900 better?  and what is universal?

I need an IEM that is good with electronica and classical as well.  But I made this thread for the benefit of everyone, not just so I can find a fast IEM, hahaha.

You should read that post again. The DBA-02 is definitely better than the RE-Zero. I never had the HJE900 and DBA-02 at the same time but they don't have the same signature anyway. Universal earphone as in the DBA-02, HJE900, SM3, etc. It's pretty much any earphone that is not a custom.
