Speed dating

Thread Starter

Hey folks. I'm looking for help preparing some questions for Speed Dating this weekend

I like this one: "How do you feel about your credit rating?"

Start things off with "What does your father do for a living?"

That one never fails to impress.

I've found a couple of effective approaches that avoid the usual clichés of "what do you do," "where do you live," etc.

Go back to their childhood. Ask them what their favorite toy used to be, where their family went on vacation, first pet, if they ever traveled to see relatives in another state, if they listened to a band/singer they'd be embarrassed to admit now (ask that with a smile), favorite foods, first movie they saw, and so on. Those kinds of questions allow for them to start telling stories, which is what you want. You'll run out of time and you'll be able to say that you want to hear more about the family trip where the car broke down or something like that.

Food also gets people going. Don't just ask what kind of food they like. Ask if they've ever thrown a dinner party, favorite place they've eaten while on a vacation, the worst restaurant they've eaten at, what they've eaten that they love but didn't expect to like, and more creative questions along those lines. Everybody loves to talk about food and, again, it gives you an opportunity to ask her to meet you at the place she was talking about, or similar.

BS.  Erik holds up flash cards of the HD555, HD595 and HD650 and asks them to match them accordingly w/ the right model designation.

LOL!

FWIW, Erik, as always, has given some great advice.

Anaxilus, that's only with circuit diagrams.

He has to make sure that he has a worthy mate. It did backfire with Crazy Rita, though...

Someday I wish to be an infinite fountain of great advice like UE, but we'll see.

There was no speed dating with Crazy Rita.

I'm still haunted by the time I put spare rolls of toilet paper on the handle of the plunger. Seemed like a good solution.

But it wasn't.

Turns out, the handle is dirty, the rolls had to be thrown away and I was screamed at for the better part of two hours.

At least it was calmer than the time Crazy Rita got arrested.

Sigh. I always get the stories in parts. You need to write a memoir of the Rita Years and publish it.

Oh, it's not just Crazy Rita.

Among others, there was Hang-Up-Call Lisa, Fightin' Angie and Knife-Wielding Bambi.

You know, maybe I shouldn't be giving advice in this thread.

Or you could just finish those stories instead of just briefly mentioning them. I think that's a better idea :)
