large (> 60 GB) mp3 player?

Thread Starter

My 60 GB iPod (5G?  the first video) may be dying.  The HDD is making strange noises and seeking is really slow.  Something seems wrong.  I question how long it'll last.

If it dies, I'd want a replacement.  I'm not a fan of iTunes (I've been using foobar to load music--mainly so I can organize music myself, convert replaygain to soundcheck, etc.)  Are there other large capacity mp3 players out there besides iPod classics?  I was feeling a little limited by the 60 GB iPod, but at the same time, it'd be nice to not worry about HDD's either.

I usually listen to the iPod at work through an amp or in the car plugged in through the auxiliary.  I occasionally listen through headphones plugged in directly.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks.

Try reformating the device with itunes, that may fix the problem.

If the HDD is the problem, you can always buy a new HDD online and replace the current one.

There are flash-based 64GB DAPs, namely Zune HD (requires zune software in order to upload music), Sony NW-A847/A857 (connects to PC just like thumb usb drive, and is drag&drop) and iPod Touch (not sure about itunes).

There is the option of getting an old Iriver H120 or h140 and putting a 64 or 128 GB Solid state drive in them, however the price for those drives is about $250 and $450, respectiveley. This player can work with the new Ibasso Boomslang and Toucan balanced Dac and amp, giving you options.

You could also go for a 5.5g Ipod classic and have somebody put a flash drive in it.
