Has the fake ath-m50 arrived? - Page 4

Yeah looking at yours, BassThor, the construction does look bad.  I was looking at mine and your image, everything about mine seem to be more refine as for as construction goes.  I see a lot of gap on yours whereas mine it seems the gap is almost not there unless I really really look for it.  Like for example the headband leather thread, you can see it on mine, but it is more tuck in or the snap on plastic clips of the swivel headphone cups seems loose on yours.  There are more, but I think it be pointless.  The rest of the other stuff, could be just either the angle or quality of the picture taken such as your leather seems to be shinier and also the plastic used on yours seem slightly cheaper.  again, picture can be deceiving sometime, but those marks you spotted doesn't lie though. Hope it all work out for ya.

Inside looks very fake, low quality screws and plastic comes out when you unscrew them. I`m guessing the real ones have the blue screw-glue like any other quality product with screws in it.

So I`m opting for my money back. biggrin.gif The headset sounds great but the quality... Very so so..

Well I think picture 3 says it all. That is a bad fake when you cant even get the logo even close to right. Your logo shouldnt be like his Soundeffect.

I don't heared about fakes which has a good sound quality. So I'm skeptical if this M50 is a fake. They are scratches, why? Counterfeits does not have scratches, fakers are not so stupid to produce a wrong logo. I think Audio Technica has made a mistake producing the headshell logo and put the phones to trash can or something else. Then someone has pickup them and put them on the market. I belief this so long as far as someone tells me that the sound quality worse compared to the original one.

They would trash the shell, not the driver if that was true.

Yeah, just checked my ATH-m50s. The logo on yours is definitely reversed and they're fake. As for Trance_Gott, can you compare your headphones to anything else? I mean, do you have other headphones to compare to to check the sq?

I have compared the M50 with HD650, DT880, DT770 and AKG701. I know what a good sound is. My result is that they sound very good. But i have no chance in the moment to compare with a original M50.

Yeah, that is a really strange incident. I've compared to the HD650 before, but I wouldn't be able to compare to anything else atm. What I'm thinking is that somehow, this turned out to be a factory defect. Yours could very well be legit then.

That definitely looks like it's a manufacturing error. If you say it sounds good, then I highly doubt that it would be a fake as the sq is really what gives a fake away the most. I have the ATH-M50S with the straight capable, and mine's slightly different. I checked both earcups and the logo is facing the correct way on both.

I was looking at your pics and it looks like the last picture shows the left earcup with a reversed AT logo. Just thought you should know. This is what mine looks like:

Also, this is the straight cable version and it came in one of the *new* boxes, light blue with no front flap.

Yes, we all know that already, but they claim that the sound is still really good even after being compared to a few high mid-fi headphones.

Ditto same here mine is the same.

I'm surprise the one with the reverse logo sound good. Maybe after all, it might be just a batch that were made with an error therefore cheaper?

Trance_Gott so does the headphone product music like how everyone describe it to be?

I also managed to ask a couple of people who bought from the same ebay seller ("manufacturer refurbished" $75). One said the product was as mindblowing as the one he tested beforehand, but it didn't look new. He gave a very detailed run-down of the sound

The other person responded with a 2 page analysis of the frequency response. He confirmed that they were not new, but that to his analysis they were genuine (he gave a lot of detail re the signature m50 bass reproduction)..

He said his results mimicked the chart on: http://www.headphone.com/headphones/audio-technica-ath-m50.php

Of course this isn't 100% surefire evidence, but it's the risk that creates the payoff.

Happy hunting!
