iPod Classic w/ 320GB hard drive. Why can't I?

Thread Starter

The hard drive on my 160gb iPod Classic went kerplunk a month out of warranty. I've been wanting to try this since Toshiba released their MK3233GSG . Why won't it work or what difficulties do you see? Is it because rockbox is required and isnt available for the 6th gen models or would the apple os work? maybe that wouldn't allow me to access all the new space but possibly i could edit it or maybe even edit rockbox? Im just unsure as to what exactly it is that separates the classic from the ipod video. I apologize in advance if these questions contain obvious answers i'm ignorant too.  Thanks so much for you're time, I've been scouring the internet for answers to the why question for days and appreciate any and all help.

GSG won't work because it has SATA interface. You just cant' install this into your ipod.

Also, 320GB is a dual-platter one, so, in addition to interfaces logical and mechanical compatibility, it just won't fit into your ipod (because 160gb last-generation ipod was designed for HDDs that are 5mm thick, and this 320GB one is 8mm thick - these are from the same generation, with 160gb per platter).
