Non response by seller - What to do?

I refer to this thread:

http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/512321/fs-hd800-w-balanced-blue-dragon-cable

On Friday, (17 Sep 2010) I contacted the seller (Devin_mm) - We PMed a bit and spoke on his phone and I check out his creditials. He seemed like a decent chap. I sent the money and he said he will ship out the goods on friday and update me with a tracking number.  After i sent the money, i have tried contacting the seller but only got a cryptic response from the seller saying he was sorry, he is not at home and will send out the tracking number on Sunday.

I see him online but he is not responding. I call but he does not answer the phone. No responses to PM either.

its 3 days and i have not gotten a tracking number or at least some assurance that he will do the necessary. Am I being oversensitive or have I been scammed?

Any advice will be welcomed.

Regards

Thank you for letting us know. I'd give the seller another day or two to contact you and explain. If he doesn't, please let me know and I will try to contact him.

It seems that there has been an uptick in potential bad trades around here, it's very concerning.

UE, congrats on your Modship, when did that happen? I'm sad to have learned in such an unhappy way.

Well, let's hope for the best.

Thanks, logwed! It's been in the works for a bit and they put me in on Friday night.

Well, I'm glad to see head-fi's wisest member to be a valuable part of the official team.

Be a little more patient email him did you get his number? try to call him, since you're dealing with a huge amount of money.. its better to call him, you did get his number right? a little more patience but after a week and still no response then definitely something's wrong.

As for me even if the guy has a good credibility i always use a background check like FB or personal number where i could reach him in "just in case situations" just to be sure. but from his feedback the seller looks solid give it a day or two.

Hi guys.

Yeah I got his number but its no use since he does not answer the phone and i keep dropping into voice messaging. i have called like 7-8 times over the last few days. Left voice messages.

And the guy like you said, looks rock solid with 1000+ posts. I am sure once you guys have remitted USD1500 you will be anxious to know if your goods were shipped.

I have also written an email to ask him nicely if he changed his mind or he is not free to complete the deal, i don't mind getting the funds wired back.

This really bites me the a**. I am generally quite patient and have sold stuff before. from a few dollars to a few hundred. Generally, i know the importance of letting my buyers know what is the status of any sale, what i will do and if they need to know anything, they should contact me at what numbers or email me - i will respond in 12 hours. Correct me if i am wrong that i should feel anxious with this guy.

I don't think you're being over-sensitive. With this kind of money at stake, I'd be nervous, too - especially since you just forked it over to a complete stranger. I hope everything works out for you.

Well I hope that when you say you wired him the money you meant some other form of payment.

Never ever wire money to someone you do not know.

CC is the only way to pay via Paypal.

Did your payment get claimed?

Maybe the seller was feeling irritated at your communications. He said he'd give you a tracking number on Sunday, but you were posting here before that.

Does not sound too promising, really.

But as others have said - give it a couple more days before taking further action.

Thanks guys for the advice:

- Yes payment was claimed.

Let me clarify:

I am from overseas meaning i am 12-14 hours ahead. I do have some experience in online trading and as a seller, i do inform my buyers (at least assure them) that things are going ok.

1)This is a particularly big trade. USD1500. I believe that is a fairly big amount in any currency.

And when i was sending the funds via paypal, I did so while talking to the seller. Things look ok and he seemed nice. After sending the funds, his mobile became "uncontactable"

2) Why the alarm? because the seller told me he will send the goods and give me a tracking number on Friday.  after 2-3 emails for tracking number, he gave me a cryptic note stating sorry, he would give me some data on sunday night his time.

Sunday has come and gone. And i am still waiting.

3) There were certain things that seem weird hence this thread. seller wanting the payment as "gift".  Thanks to strict anti-money laundering schemes set here, I COULD not but instead choose to pay extra for the the paypal fees incurred. Lucky for me, I would have but i could not.

4) The other thing that was strange was  When I can see the seller online via gmail, he chooses to ignore me, not email me, and even ignore my phone calls. I am NOT calling the seller 100 times. Just 7-8 timesover the last 3 days *that averages 3 per day which are consecutive.*  The alarming part is he picks up, then hangs up - then the subsequent phone call i go into voice mail.

I do note the times I call - i call at times i feel that he is around, awake. Not to pester the chap when he is deep in sleep - that should irritate him. And why would i choose to irritate someone who has USD1500 of my money?

5) I even wrote a polite email telling him - if you change your mind, please advise. I don't mind him returning the funds less charges but he did not even REPLY. that is when he is ONLINE via gmail.

The point of this thread is what do i do?

And apparently, this is a very safe place to do business. I am no attention seeker. Just wondering if such things do happen to all of you guys, and what will you do.

Thank you for your time and all the advice received. Especially the mod - uncle erick. he is very re-assuring.

PS: after this trade, even if sellers rep is "rock solid", I would think twice before trading online again.

Its probably monday your time now, if i don't hear from this chap in another 24 hours, i probably want to ask mods to help contact him.

The seller mentioned shipping on Friday, maybe he had some misadventure and couldnt ship them on that day. If the post office is not open on the weekend, Monday, which it is now in the US, would be the next opportunity for the seller to send the item out.

When you notice the seller is 'online', maybe he's just forgotten to log out?

Anyway I hope everything works out.

That's certainly possible, but it's pretty suspicious considering he's not replying to emails or answering phone calls / calling back.

Good luck, I hope you get your gear or money back. Reading things like this is disheartening.
