[GUIDE] Sonic Differences Between DT770-DT990 Models & More - Page 10

Hey great review and comparison, but what I read scared me a little. You say that the DT 770 32 ohm bass is weak?? I like listening to hip-hop, rap, RnB, pop and good quality bass is a must-have for me. That's not all I listen to, but those are the main genres I listen to. Also on headroom, the charts show a different story than what you say about the bass. The 32ohm 770s should have more. So basically what I need to know is this; the bass is still very good right?

The 32Ohm models do have less bass than the DT880. I would say the DT770 bass is very neutral and light on impact.

The 80Ohm Pro version has a ton of bass though. You would want that model instead if you are looking to get pumping bass.

Added some of PART 3 up, but will finish it later on tight. I'm also working on K702, K601, SRH-840 comparisons for PART 2

I guess you compared the hd 600 to the DT 990 600 Ohm, right?

Edit: I have read that you compared only the 600 ohm versions to the hd 600?

From memory how do you compare the 250 ohm dt990 to hd 600?

I only have the 600Ohm models on hand so the comparison is of them.

As a T1 owner I'm looking forward to your 600Ohm amp guideL3000.gif

Thanks for this mate. I'm looking forward especially to your comparison of the DT880/600Ohm to the SRH840 as the Beyer's may very well be my next set.

Such an amazing review. Thanks a lot.

Will I need an amp with the DT 990/600?

I've a Creative X-Fi sound card.

They will function without an amp, but I believe an amp is need for them to perform to their max potential.

Ah but I don't have a proper amp. I will get a fiio E5 so with that in mind, would you still recommend the Pro over the Prem? I will be playing it out of my computer and my Samsung Captivate mostly.

Yes I would still recommend the 80Ohm DT770 over the 32Ohm model. The 32Ohm model is rather bass light while the 80Ohm Pro model is very bass heavy. The 80Ohm is also easier to amp than the 32Ohm model.

Sorry to double post but I wanted everyone to know I have added the 250Ohm and 600Ohm amping suggestions to PART 3. PART 3 is up online, but still incomplete.

the dt770s' bass are lighter than the dt880s :-?. and the dt880s also have more treble. That means the mid on dt770 may be better and more forward mid. Can you tell me which one have better Prat/speed

Thanks Zombie_X for the great comparisons. I was able to only compare the DT770-Pro80 against the DT880-Pro250 (and heard very similar results).

It sounds like the Pro 80s were indeed the correct choice for me since a portable amp was an absolute requirement and it seems you are saying these are the only ones out of the 770 line that are relatively easy to drive.

Out of curiosity did you have a lot of hours on the Pro 80s? I have found that after a few hundred hours that the bass becomes more balanced (though still a little heavy).

Thanks again for the awesome and very useful article.

Quick question (and sorry if this is dumb), but sensitivity determines how easily a headphone is driven correct? And the higher the sensitivity, the more power a headphone needs to be properly driven? What are the sensitivity of the DT 770 models? I know that the 770 pro 80 has 105 dB (which is hard to drive right? Same as a Denon AH D2000 I think).
