Not similar sounding. The 880s don't have that sloppiness in the bass, and is much, MUCH more neutral. The 990 Pros are the closest open alternative to the 770/80s.

Yea , i love my 880 250 ohms with my indeed tube amp. The amp has s sweet +8 sub bass +4 high button. Or a fun button. That an some eq dwning with nrml foobar eq is great. If u can't ew dwn correctly. The eltriq is great for eq ups. Still going 990 250 ohm in 3 weeks :3 Yaypost #1339 of 14802/5/13 at 8:53pm- Mad Lust Envy

Quite a bit better. Theres no bass bloat, so the mids are much more forward and clear. The 880s aren't a basshead can, so the bass will be considerably less than the 770/80s, if that is a factor for you.post #1340 of 14802/5/13 at 9:07pm- devhen

Quote:I agree with everything Mad Lust Envy has said. I would add that I was surprised at just how much more detail retrieval the 880s have. Overall I would say the 880s are a step up from the 770s in every way besides tonal accuracy which I think both do equally well. Unless you need accentuated bass I think the 880s are definitely a legitimate upgrade from the 770s. I really liked my 770 Premium 600 ohm but didn't like how the bass sometimes drowned out the other frequencies and the mids sometimes sounded overly recessed. The 880 solved those problems while also providing more detail. They are awesome cans.
post #1341 of 14802/11/13 at 9:19pmOriginally, I was deciding whether to get the 770/250 Pro's or the 990/250 Pro's. The hype of the AKG K167's got me busy for awhile however. After playing around with them, I've decided that I want to give it another go. I was set of the 990's initially because apparently, they were less bassy and the treble wasn't as harsh between the two but I've recently read some conflicting statements so my question is: which of the Beyers has a more neutral sound signature?

Yeah, I would like to get the 880 but my budget doesn't allow it.post #1344 of 14802/12/13 at 1:05am- pp312

What's your budget?
I can pick up either the 770's or the 990's locally for $165. Though my budget is nothing above $200 and used is strictly not an option for me.post #1346 of 14802/12/13 at 8:49am- devhen

They'll accept an offer of $200 and shipping is free. They're "warehouse resealed" but have never been used and are like-new with the full warranty.

Quote:there are a few ppl selling dt 880 250 (which btw are STUPID accurate imo... like almost bland in the neutrality) selling for under $200 if you want to keep buying here on the thread. But Im'm also looking at getting both the 770 pro 80 and 990. I need something with isolation and something for home <3.
Still though there are some cheap dt 880 600 ohms I might grab one of those too :x, but the bass on the 880 250 is really nice with a good eq and a nice bass boost amp! I use my Indeed G3, and FooBars nrml eq. Eq dwn obviously and the bass comes out very nicely for EDM tunes!

They're the Pros of course. A great deal and probably lolspops best option if he's at all interested in accuracy (and no, they're not bland). However, he should ne aware that the Pros clamp a little harder than the Premium.

post #1350 of 14802/12/13 at 6:46pmOk, is the theater-like experience gone and how is the sub-bass on the 880's? I want the theater-like experience without the overpowered bass/treble drowning out the mids.
