[GUIDE] Sonic Differences Between DT770-DT990 Models & More - Page 71

I was more referring to the 990 Premium 600 ohm version, as that is what I just picked up. But it's so similar to my HD600, and inferior in most aspects, that I think I'll probably try to sell them =/

The two couldn't be any more different. The HD600 is a very neutral/flat headphone. The 990 is very bass and treble heavy, with an obvious fun oriented signature. The only similarities should be the fact they are open...

I agree, I just mean that the 990 is sort of another jack of all trades can, imo.  It doesn't really do anything better than my HD600s.

For a SRH 940 going against the T70 with a CEntrance DACport source how would the T70 perform in terms of soundstage, separation and mids?

Thanks in advance!

Nice Beyer thread here. This actually narrow my option for m50 replacement with beyer 990 pro 250ohm and senn hd 650.

One questions, how is the soundstage differ from 990 pro and hd 650?

I'm asking because I'm using it for gaming too beside music (50-50).

Gaming wise is important to have the soundstage, especially like CS type. But for music, I also need the soundstage for details. I don't want the m50 feel that everything crammed in my head.

don't be fooled by the DT990 price tag, they compete with HD650 equally and have a cleaner bass and bigger soundstage. you can't go wrong with the DT990, it's on another level from m50.

Super strange. I got some new velour pads for my DT990 and it completely ruined the sound. Bass became muddy and sloppy. Vocals insanely recessed. The soundstage nosedived into the abyss. I thought it might have been my new NFB 12.1 or something, but I put the old velours back on and the DT990 sound fantastic again. I don't understand how this could make such a big change.

Betting the velours you got were meant for the DT770. I owned the DT770/600 and DT990/600 at the same time. I swapped the pads... biggest mistake you can make. Return them and make certain you get 990 pads.

Yeah, it looks like you're right. I got these "EDT 770 V" pads originally for my M-Audio Q40, but I decided to return those cans. It says on the packaging that they're compatible with DT990 though, but I guess not. Shame.

Proves how much pads can affect the sound. The 770 Pads seal, and are harder than the 990 pads. The 990's sound didn't have that much seal in mind, so it makes sense that it ruined the sound quality. If you try putting the 990 Pads on the 770, you lose all the bass, and the sound is 100% treble.

Still rocking with the Dt880 premium 600 ohms and still very happy. Seem to work well with all genres. Unlikely I will ever change these.

I also have the Dt 880, Pro 250 though, I can say that I do desire more Bass Impact [although mine r still under 10 hours burn in] While I LOVE the dt 880 RIGHT OUT THE BOX with well master Sound Tracks and Rock, for EDM the bass is lacking and I could give up a little texture for more bump... although when I want Sub Bass i reach for the XB 700 so... I'm used to some serious THUMP

Still though once again happy to hear the 990 has that Mid bass Forward impact! Not to happy to hear that the Highs are a bit more energetic than the 880s... Although in all honesty I use my Zune HD, as my DAP and the Zune is already Dark + A dark EQ on the Zune [-Highs + LOWS] + a cMoy it should be lovely <3

So I'm once again happy to feel confident with a DT 990 Pro Purchase in the Future, also I love the build quality of the Dt 880 pros, I though there would be more plastic from pitcutres and I'm happy to see there's MUCH less <3

Although I really do love the Detail on the 880!

I'm guessing you love the treble on your DT880 right?, anyway we should move to the DT880 thread before people in here start throwing their things at us biggrin.gif
