SOLD: ATH W5000

Up for sale is a set of modified Audio-Technica W5000's. The mods were not done by me, but by the previous seller (a member here). See this sale thread; here is the description of what has been done to them:

Quote:
I removed the internal baffle and cotton rings that serve as damping on the stock headphone. This causes a significant increase in bass. I then plugged off one of the "ports" (there's 2 per cup) with tak (the yellow stuff in the picture), to tame the bass some, putting it roughly in the middle of where the stock and undampened sound is. This, for me, was a good balance as it increases slam/impact of the bass without making it boomy or excessive (which I feel undampened it is somewhat, which hurt the quality a bit, hence why I desired to find some way of toning it down). I also adjusted the foam plug on the back of the driver, which gives a bit more midrange, which I found appealing (guitars and vocals specifically became more appealing, which they can sound a little thin stock). Overall the mods help with tonality, bass impact, and really helped alleviate some of the quirks of the stock sound. It retains the strengths (speed, detail, clarity, imaging, and bass texture). I've played around with modding the W5000 quite a bit, and this was the best result I've gotten after being unhappy with the way the character of the headphone changed with the popular Fitz mod (which made it too dark and the bass too hefty which made the mids sound almost recessed).

Also the headband has been bent to help with fit (it fits the best of the 3 W5000s that I've owned).

I have the case, though there is a melted spot in one corner - again this is how it was when I got it. But it's just exterior and cosmetic, the inside is just fine. I have the original shipping box, too.

Asking $SOLD + shipping. Shipping (fedex) is probably around $15 for CONUS; I am willing to ship overseas but it'll cost more, probably more like $30.

Here are some pics. There is a slight scuff on one cup as you can see in the picture below, though the flash exaggerates it a bit. Could probably be erased by some careful polishing. The other cup is fine.

Sonically these are great! I am selling these simply because I have too many headphones - as I'm sure you all understand, ha! Shame for these to sit unused.

Feel free to post or PM with any questions. I have a good feedback thread here.

Wow, modded or not, that is the lowest price I've seen on a W5000.

Congrats to the buyer!

Yes, as of today, they're officially sold. I got these for close to this price from a fellow head-fi-er, just happy to "share the love." :)
