Hey Head-Fi,
I posted another thread, asking, amongst other things, how I could bypass my iPod's internal DAC, and was told that this is not possible - indeed there only seems to be 1 mp3 player on the market that has a digital output - and that was produced in 2003!!! (iriver ihd - 120/140)
So my question is, if the iPod's DAC cannot be bypassed, why do portable DACs exist? Does this mean D/A conversion gets done twice - once inside the player and another time inside the portable DAC? Surely this second DAC processing would decrease sound quality, if anything?
Thanks,
Keyser
P.S. Same thing for portable headphone amps - is the signal being amplified twice, once by the iPod's crummy internal amp, and a second time by the external amp???
