SOLD: Rockhopper Audio MAXED M³ (M Cubed) Headphone Amplifier w/STEPS PSU

SOLD

Up for sale is a very well-made headphone amp, hand-assembled by Stephen at Rockhopper Audio. The M Cubed was designed by AMB laboratories and provides a very nice warm but detailed sound. It gets along well with both my low and high impedance headphones.

This particular M Cubed was build using big burly Black Gate capacitors that are likely not available for purchase any longer, Cardas wiring, Vampire copper-body RCAs, STEPS power supply, EAR feet, and Burr Brown OPA637 OpAmps.

It really does sound fantastic and synergizes very well with my Denons and Grados, but I'm selling because I'm a tube-head and would like to fund a new Bottlehead amp that I can keep myself busy with.

Price is SOLD in the CONUS, which is highly worth it considering the quality of the parts used. Interested parties in Canada should contact me to discuss shipping options.

Some people wanted to know more about the upgrades that aren't included in standard M3s and approximate worth of each. I will do my best:

STEPS PSU - The STEPS is a high quality power supply created by Tangent, you'll notice it in the pictures as the separate board featuring the blue Amveco Magnetics piece. The STEPS provides superior sound quality to using a wall-wart. The STEPS is a $150 option.

Black Gates - Both the power supply and amplifier are populated with Black Gate Capacitors. Black Gates are generally known to be the best audio electrolytics available. As of 2006, Rubycon is no longer offering black Gates, so the supplies have dwindled, and nowadays, it's hard to find anything but a few small values here and there. These were an expensive option on the M3 (IIRC ~$150)

Vampire RCAs - Included on the back are Vampire COPPER body RCAs (CM2F-OFC). They are incredibly high quality and run $30 a pair.

Cardas Wiring - The amp has been wired with Cardas internally litzed copper wiring in teflon.

Gold Japanese Knobs - These have a nice solid weight and feel to them, I believe they are worth ~$30.

EAR Feet - The Ear feet assist in vibration damping, they are worth $12

Neutrik Locking Plug - The Neutrik Locking plug prevents the plug from being removed accidentally and provides a nice, solid connection. Worth $7

Case - The amp features a handsome and unique aluminum case, but I can't recall the supplier or costing.

Hope that helps.

This is one of the best amps I've heard, and I've heard quite a few :P The asking price is a bargain.

Is that second knob bass boost or variable gain?

It's bass boost.
