Silver Dragon/Equinox with HD-650s

Ok, I just got my 650s through the post on Friday. I've been burning them in (figured it couldn't hurt although it does seem to be a topic of 'excited' debate on this board) but have had a few hours of listening time and have been very happy so far.

I'm also psyched that my PPA is on its way from JMT (well, its in the hands of the postal service) so I'm also looking forward to getting that through.

My main setup at present is a 30gig iPod that will be connected to the amp through the line-out on the dock in the office, and with my DVD/SACD player here (Pioneer DV-656A) until I replace that with a dedicated SACD player (not likely for another 8 months or so) unless I go with a second hand good redbook player or good DAC off eBay. You never know where this itch is going to take you

So, I'm then brought to the issue of cable upgrades. The 650s sound great to me as-is, but I know others swear by cable upgrades, and after reading another post about them I'm thinking the two best are the Stefan Audioart Equinox, or Silver Dragon.

The question is, I suppose, is is it worth the upgrade with what I would imagine are not amazing sources? What are the key things that using an upgrade cable (and I'm most likely leaning towards the Silver Dragon) would improve?

If I were you I would stick with the stock cable and put the money towards a good source. The cables do change the sound, but in the case of the HD650 I like the stock cable.

I aggree when I had the 650s the stock cable sounded the best compared to the Cardas at least. Still rethinking.

Agree! Don't even consider new cable until you have a nice source

When you do get ready for the cable, I've used both the ZU and the Equinox and find the ZU much better with the HD650. Also if you are going to be waiting 8 months for the new source and can afford the cable now, I'd get it.
